LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - McDonald's Corp. may soon offer its breakfast menu all day long as a new restaurant layout will make it easier to prepare a wide variety of foods at once, its chief executive said on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Bank of America 36th Annual Investment Conference in San Francisco, McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner said the company was implementing a new restaurant operating system that would finally make selling breakfast all day possible.
"It's not compatible with our current operating system," Skinner said about offering its breakfast menu all day. "But with this system, that could be possible."
The so-called flexible operating platform will make McDonald's food preparation processes more transparent to customers and "offer more variety with greater ease," Skinner said.
Breakfast sales have been a key part of McDonald's three-year turnaround thanks in part to products like McGriddles sandwiches and a new, stronger coffee blend. But the restaurants stop serving breakfast late in the morning to switch over to burgers and other items for lunch and dinner.
The breakfast period has been the "strongest performer" among McDonald's three major meal segments in the last two to three years and remains "extremely strong," Chief Financial Officer Matthew Paull said during the presentation.
McDonald's shares edged up 21 cents, or 0.56 percent, to $37.79 early Wednesday afternoon on the New York Stock Exchange.

While we are on the topic of McDonalds, here are a few words of wisdom. Never, and I mean NEVER eat McDonalds the day before your PAT!

Burger King's breakfast is so much better than McDonalds. You have a lot more choices at BK. However, McDonald's fries dominate over BK. When it comes to burgers, BK is also the best!
BK burgers + McDonalds fries = heaven on Earth.

I went to Thailand back in March. One of the books I read while over there was about the process involved in making Mc'D's food. I have not eaten (almost) any fast food since my return, and I have gained weight. It says something about the malnutrition that food promotes.
Subway is my new hazard.
By the ways, Mc'ds is in Thailand too....http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/9793/5557259211070albzp8.jpg
So is BK, 7-11, Starbucks...etc...etc..

I think Starbucks is EVERYWHERE by now.....at least five or six of them every 10 square miles or so, no matter where you go.
On the original topic, Mickey D's breakfasts are the worst of all the fast food places, IMO. Carl's Jr. has THE best breakfast burger of them all!!!

Why the evil face? I think I'm beyond "sticking it to the man" and battling corporate evil. Starbucks, Pete's coffee, Joe Schmo Mom & Pop coffee stand; I'll take it when and were I can get it. I gotta have my brew. Of course, if given the choice, and when @ home in Chico, there is no substitute for the Naked Lounge. (Only a Tea and Coffee house, and nothing the name might imply.) As a matter of fact, the guy who owns it has a second coffee house in Sac. Next time any of you are at the academy for training I challenge you to go to the Naked Lounge- 15th & Q St. downtown Sac. They serve the highest quality coffee I have ever had. They have their own roasting plant up by the Chico airport. I guess my point was, I, like most other caffeine addicted fools, could care less where my next fix comes from.

I know what you're saying about having to have your brew - I'm the same way! In fact, if I don't get my cup (or two) in the morning, I closely resemble my avatar! I just don't particularly care for Starbucks' coffee, and get tired of seeing one every half mile on every major street in every town. It's not even so much "sticking it to the man" or any of that kinda stuff, because I do drink their coffee when I have no other readily available choice. If it was a 'jihad' kind of thing, I'd absolutely boycott them at all costs, and I'm not quite there - it's just one of those little things that gets under my skin, kinda like that annoying windbag announcer that a lot of the car dealers use for their radio ads - the guy who says "so help me, Hanna!" at the end of each ad.

Nations or Tommy's, that's where it's at. Isn't a big double cheese burger with chili cheese fries considered breakfast? It is when you're working the graveyard.

Mmmmmmmm........Tommy's!
Yep - that's a graveyard breakfast if I've ever seen it! Tommy's, King Taco, Alberto's....all considered fine dining at 0345!

You guys just wait..................
Oatmeal for breakfast to keep your cholesterol down.
Yogurt and fruit for protein and low carbs.
A banana every day for the nutrients and regularity
BTW In and Out is my hands down choice for burgers. Most of us who worked S. Cal lived on them at one time or another and the management was always very friendly to us. The only bad memory I have is when Officer Ward Washington was eating at the the In and Out at the Pomona and 7th and the garbage truck ran off the road and landed on top of him RIP
These days I go into In and Out and they fix me a protein burger with grilled onions and cheese, tightly wrapped in crispy lettuce.

Now that we have switched to System-status posting throughout the county, and there's no guarantee you'll be working out of a station all day, I have found a new use for the 110V inverter in the back of my ambulance. Coffee anyone? It's not just in the firehouse anymore.

Starbucks stuff is too sweet. I generally get 4 shot's crammed into a small cup, with half the sugar. In fact their cup sizes is just about the only thing that pisses me off about them. (tall, grande, venti........ ) But you have to stand in awe of any once mom & pop joint that is now in fact on every street corner in America. That's just good marketing and an awesome business plan. I only wish I was about a decade older so I could have bought some of their stock back in the day.

ah, you should be eating that stuff anyway! the thought of eating mcdonald's makes my stomach turn. ick! we're an in-n-out family. my parents got engaged at the first one in baldwin park and my husband followed tradition by taking me there for our engagement dinner. i remember driving up to la with my family for in-n-out before they came down to san diego. man, i LOVE that place. i'm either a purist (spread only) or not (animal style). animal fries are pretty darn good, too! it's the only fast food we eat (well, aside from wherever my husband's fto's dragged him!) and the only fast food place i'll let my kids eat. fresh, fresh, fresh!

I broke down this afternoon and ate lunch at Mickey D's. This girl I work with had an order of french fries from the local McDonalds located across the street sitting on her desk and offered me one. After tasting that fry (has anyone ever tried to eat just ONE french fry?) I just had to go pig out.

makakona,
One of my other feathers is that I am a commercial hot air balloon pilot and when I was a Chippy Sgt in Santa Fe Springs we would go down to Perris to fly our balloon. Rich Snyder, who was then CEO of In and Out got interested in ballooning and bought a most cool black balloon with the In and Out logo. After he got his license, we were with him for his inagural flight in Perris and he gave those of us that were with him a nice paperweight momento of the occasion. I was saddened when I learned he died in 1993. Many of the restaurants had the balloon picture displayed.
As far as why a person should go to In and Out. It is all about fresh cool lettuce and tomatoes, juicy burgers with grilled onions, and all wrapped tight to seal in the goo. The fries are idaho spuds, long cut at the store and fried with the skins on. Yum.....
When a place only serves burgers, fries and drinks they can really get good at what they do.
When she was still alive, Julie Childs was interviewed on the Larry King show and she told Larry if he wanted the best hamburger in town he needed to go to In and Out.

System Status Management worked in small towns in on the east coast, but many private ambulance companies that use it tend to have problems (ie. response times and lack of units) which is one of the reasons AMR lost so many of their big Fire Department transport contracts in So. Cal. and Nor. Cal. That and you have to post units (yuck), i hated posting when we got low on the priority. something about sitting on a street corner just didn't strike me as enjoyable.
