Just want to take a minute to congratulate all fellow applicants starting the Academy today...

Keep your head up and don't even think about quitting...too much hardship has been put in the process...

I was just thinking the same thing, this weekend when they come home they will be so tired especially after the PT on Wednesday or Thursday, I can't remember, I know today for them has got to be hell. They'll probably get to their dorm rooms and be looking at all the paperwork the received and start crying, some might not even come back the following Monday. Some might not have made it past 7:45 am after instructors laid into them in the gym this morning. It's pretty tough... I'm serious.

One day...if I am so lucky I'll be where they are.

For academics, I can understand...injury is understandable, but just quitting because the light at the end of the tunnel has disappeared, I mean people leave their jobs, their homes in other states, and then just quit. NO WAY!!! I've never been so I don't know, but the only way I can be pulled away from something is if I'm forced.

I'd put money on it. I wonder how many "rang out" on Day 1?

You need to listen a bit closer.

You do go home on the first weekend. In fact, it's highly encouraged to do so.

But the big question is, how many Cadets are highly encouraged to go home and never return???

All of them.

I think after the first week, everyone considers how badly they really want to be there. Shoot, I think most cadets ask themselves how badly they want it for most of the time they're there. No matter how much Camp Snoopy sucks while you're there, it's all worth it in the end because this job rocks!

I was thinking the same thing when I read that! A big pet peeve of mine is when people post statements (that they really know nothing about first hand) as a fact - when it is actually an assumption on their part. This is how people get mis-informed. Don't give information as fact, if you are not absolutely sure about that information. /rant end.

okkk..thats the thing, I was absolutly sure. i typically post things as a question. i am good about that. but this i was sure that the cadets are restricted to base for the first weekend....i figured it was for safety...

I appologize for any confusion i might have caused.

i can be certain that they stay on base the first wed at least....RIGHT?

A friend of mine that is a CHP officer got one wednesday night, and she told me she had so much studying to do that she didn't have room to go out. But I know the only way a cadet is told to stay on ANY weekend is if they are remediated for failing a test. Then they get one more chance and if they fail again, they're gone.

My BI said he used to drive 10 hours to get home from the academy, I can imagine the weekends are well worth it.

Sportbiker,
No, it's not a good thing. Please don't post comments regarding something you haven't experienced first hand. Let the officers on the forum do that. It's important for the integrity of our forum and guarantees accurate information.
