I was looking at the calander this morning and remembered the next Academy class starts Monday. To all those attending, GOOD LUCK! Remember, keep your mouth closed and your eyes and ears open and never ever give up. Enjoy your last weekend of freedom. Your world is about to be turned upside down, but its worth it in the long run.

It's hard to keep your mouth closed when you're running an 8 mile double perimeter:lol:

Good luck people. It can be done:!:

I'm glad it's not an 80 pound pack, hiking 25 miles with a full combat load. I remember those days.

Thanks everybody, for all the help & encouragement. I know G-Man will lie awake at night wondering how my boots look (great thanks to you!). I guess I'll be signing off for 27 weeks!

Good luck all. My best friend that lives here in Sacramento will be there on Monday morning as well. I believe she has already talked with you Pupdog. I'm going to miss her while she is away, but at least I can see her on the weekends. I'm still on track and hope I can be one of the fortunate few who gets to drive onto the Academy grounds one Monday morning with my duffle bag. I was driving around today and stopped at Panda Express right down the street from the Academy for lunch. Then I drove by the Academy just to see the quiet before the storm. I saw a Sac PD car outfitted with some white EVOC wheels that was leaving the fast food complex and one CHP car. Otherwise, all was quiet on Reed. I'm sure a few of you will be wandering about that area come tomorrow. Again, good luck to all. Don't quit! All the yelling is for a reason.

Nothing about CHP academy is hard. Nothing compares to USMC bootcamp...Nothing about the academy staff is scary...the PT is not hard. Running with a full combat load, up hills, with gear, weapons and chow...NOTHING is that hard.

Real easy for you to say right now. There are a lot of people who have actually been through it and know what they're/we're talking about (including a LOT of Marines) who would disagree with the majority of what you just wrote. Until you have some idea of what the CHP Academy is all about, you're talking out your ass when you say that NOTHING about it is hard.

as our staff office sergeant so eloquently put it, "Semper Bye." due to the overwhelming number of Marines who quit from our Junior class. I wasn't in the military, but the last time I checked basic training wasn't 27 weeks long... nor did it encompass college courses on top of all the PT (in which plenty of Marines couldn't hang, only 4 people kept their PT shirts in the beginning) and stress.

I promise you will sing a diifferent tune after your time there, especially if you go in with that attitude. Again, best of luck to all of those starting on Monday! you've made it this far don't turn back now!

  The PAT for Valley Div. in itself put the fear of God into me.........Why would ANYONE want that much attention?????? From what I've learned and seen thus far, be humble, be serious, be courteous, but don't be dumb and run your mouth like that. One word: Targeted.

Make sure you let the PT staff know your feelings IF you are so lucky to be accepted. Semper Bye! I love it!

That's nice, really nice. If you are so fortunate to get accepted, please keep that attitude, it's always nice to have at least one arrogant person to accept all the attention.

That's called a "lightning rod" - stands out like a sore thumb and absorbs all the direct hits from above. It's always nice to have one around, they end up taking all the heat and keeping everybody else out of the spotlight!

The difference between the CHP Academy and USMC boot camp is; at the CHP academy you are not a kid anymore. You have many other responsibilities. Most cadets are married and have children they need to provide for. A lot of cadets own homes and have no idea where they are going to end up after graduation. In the CHP academy you actually have to study and pass about 120 tests. If you don?t, you are gone. A lot of folks are in their mid 30?s. Running isn?t as easy at 35 as it was at 18. A lot of cadets were supervisors, foremen and bosses of some sort in their previous employment. Its difficult to be screamed and yelled at after supervising a company for years.

Marine boot camp is tuff, no doubt. But at 18 years old, you have absolutely no responsibility. You have been told what to do by your parents, teachers and coaches your whole life. The mental stress outside of boot camps isn?t there.

About a third of each academy class is prior military. Both of my roommates were prior military. I have heard the comparisons from all different branches. The most common complaint I heard was ?The academy is twice as long as boot camp, that?s what make it more difficult.?

I think the academy would be easy for anyone with superior physical skills...but this academy is not like Boot Camp, it test your abilities in all areas. PT is a major part of the training but your mental strength will be what carries you through. Everyone will struggle somewhere physcially if not..GREAT..but academically...well when you can PT and pass the 3 quizzes you had and study for a test the next day, you've got it. It's like college at a major university, and boot camp rolled into one, that doesn't include the driving and weapons courses, I mean the day you graduate you will know how to perform your acquired skills on the highway. It's not just for anybody...

The Academy isn't "easy" for anybody. If you're in great physical shape, you still have tons of academics to face. If you're a propeller-head honor student, you still have to get through PT. Having "superior physical skills" may lighten the PT-related stress somewhat, but you're still going to get lit up from time to time.....and you won't make it through on your "superior physical skills" alone. Virtually nobody flunks out of the Academy for PT - but there are PLENTY who flunk out because they can't hack it academically, or can't drive well enough (EVOC is a lot more demanding than many people think). I'm sure any member of the armed forces who has gone on to be a peace officer will tell you that this job is a lot more complex and multi-faceted than being a grunt and hauling a rifle and pack around.

I know the academy is hard, I went to visit..and it was stressful just watching from the outside.

See, this is why we need lateral transfers! ENvY ThiS is , so qualified and in shape he should probably be promoted to Captain of an area without the bother of the academy.

As a matter of fact I think we should nix the "Stand by pay" of our MOU and funnel all that money to Envy in the form of "Semper Bye pay". This should help him while he transitions from a grunt to upper management.

This post was so funny that (following in HD1's footsteps) it inspired me to write a song.

Sung to the tune of women's lib anthem, "I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar"

I'm a jackass, hear me bray,
This is what I have to say,
I am talking out my rear as though I know!

'Cause I've done it all before,
I went to Bootcamp--harder than yours,
I've done the toughest things in the whole wide world!

CHORUS
Oh yes I am wise
Eighteen years and know it all
Yes, I've paid the price,
I'll storm Academy halls,
It won't be challenging,
I've got the gall (gall)
I am invincible (invincible)
A little too full of myself

Okay, enough song-time. EnVyThIs, get a hold of yourself. Yeah, you went to Bootcamp and it wasn't easy. And yes, there will be certain aspects of the Academy that will be easier to deal with because of your experiences. But you sound like a fool for decrying an Academy that you've never even been to. Frankly, there wasn't a single Marine in my class who thought the Academy was easy, and not one of them stated it was easier than Bootcamp. Be proud of what you've already done, but don't be so arrogant so as to think that nothing about the CHP Academy is hard. Mark my words, you'll get your butt handed to you in numerous ways--if you even qualify to attend the CHP Academy. After all, it's not as easy to get into as signing a piece of paper and boarding a bus.

Everyone has words of wisdom for Envy. In background lingo we have a very specific term for those like him,,,,, Psych DQ. Trust me, we can spot them from a mile away. Great song parody 23112.
