Officer Allen was thrown from the motorcycle, sustaining serious injury. He was life flighted to Enloe Medical Center, a regional trauma facility in Chico. Wow, too bad. I hope he will have a full recovery.
I guess I am a little puzzled about why Oroville would need motorcycles but we have them at Merced PD and I don't get that either.

Oroville has them for the same reason Guadalupe (Population 2500) and Grover Beach (Population 5000+-) have them...They got a grant that paid for the whole package...I worked in Guadalupe part-time as a Reserve Officer and in two months (200+ hours of work) I wrote....1 cite.
If they can get the grant and justify the need...more power to them I guess.

I visited Guadalupe after the San Simeon Earthquake. I was working in the FEMA Congressional Liaison Unit and some of Lois Capps staff were going to a meeting there. As I recall, at least one of the city council members was hot because he did not think an adequate damage assessment was done. I believe they did it over without any significant changes. There was also a little discontent since they did not have individual assistance granted when some of the other communities did. As you may know there are damage thresholds and some of the inspection people have been there and done that a lot and they don't bend just because someone howls. I found it to be a quaint community. I loved the Veteran's Memorial in the town and I found out that the Japanese immigrants used to farm the area heavily until WWII when they were interned.

Oroville police officer remains in stable condition
The Oroville police officer injured in a head-on traffic collision Friday had extensive surgery on Monday and remains in stable condition in an undisclosed hospital out of the local area.
Officer Brad Allen suffered a broken pelvis and shoulder blade after his police motorcycle collided with a vehicle in the intersection of Lincoln Street and Mitchell Avenue.
It was about 5:40 a.m. when Allen was going "Code 3" on the department's Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He had just left the Oroville Police Department on his way to assist a fellow officer who was pursing a fleeing suspect vehicle.
A red Chevy Cavalier traveling northbound on Lincoln Street, turned left ? directly in the path of Allen's motorcycle ? resulting in a head-on collision, according to California Highway Patrol Investigating Officer Dan Azevedo.
Witnesses also said upon impact the motorcycle officer went airborne about 20 feet in the air and struck the steel pole of the traffic light.
Allen suffered major breakage to his pelvis and was flown by the Enloe FlightCare helicopter to the Enloe Medical Center where he had emergency surgery and was stabilized for transport to another undisclosed hospital out of the area on Saturday, according to Assistant Police Chief Kirk Trostle of the Oroville Police Department.
On Monday, a team of specialist surgeons conducted extensive surgery on Allen to repair his broken pelvis. "His condition is serious, but stable," Trostle said. "It is going to be a matter of time to allow the healing process to work."
It is not known when he will return home from the hospital. "It could be another week. It depends on how well his body recovers from surgery."
Allen will be on medical leave due to his injuries for an unknown amount of time.
The California Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation into the crash.

I assisted Guadalupe with a lot of their quake stuff. I also wrote a letter of support for the FEMA appeal on behalf of the City of Santa Maria. Most of the battle was for private party assistance.
The irony (and the MAIN reason for the tiff) was that if you lived 100 yards from the Guadalupe City limits (across the river to the North in San Luis Obispo County), you were eligible for $$$ for private property damage assistance...But, since you were in Santa Barbara County, even if you suffered quake damage to your private property, you got ZERO...
There were some residents in Santa Maria that felt the same way, but were not as vocal...
We need to talk sometime about the politics in Guadalupe...
Best wishes to Officer Allen for a speedy and full recovery.
