Hello everyone, and thanks for the input on the forum. I have viewed since I received my invitation Aug 4. FYI on Harbor Inn: They have contruction going on and the hallways are a mess. The rooms are ok though. Discounted rate is $65. I called Motel 6 and reserved a room at $47.

make sure you do not leave anything resembling anything of value in the passenger compartment of your car, West Sac is notorious for druggies 459 auto.

The Extended Stay Hotel is pretty good. It's got an ironing board and everything you need inside for a reasonable amount. It's also right next to Starbucks so all of you can meet up before you ride into Camp Snoopy.

Why do the officers call the academy camp snoopy? Don't tell me I just think its funny...I'm sure I'll find out one day.

I know you people are on a budget and it's only one night but I'd suggest staying away from any Motel 6 if at all possible.

Actually SB, it won't matter where they stay. It could be a hotel in the middle of downtown Baghdad during Mardi Gras. Absolutely NO ONE sleeps the night before reporting to the Academy. Unless they're heavily sedated. I won't recommend heroin but nothing short will work.

Well then Mentor how does this sound.....Pull into the local 7-11 parking lot around 10pm. Go inside buy a cup of coffee and return to your vehicle. Place the cup of coffee on the dashboard, recline your seat and check your watch every twenty minutes until sunrise.

Not required....it's just that some of these guys/gals are coming from a long ways away and need a place to crash for the night. Like YM said, there ain't gonna be much sleepin' going on! Consider yourself lucky that you live so close.....not only for the drive on that first morning, but for the short commute home during weekend liberty.

I will be staying at the extended stay about 1/2 mile from the academy. I am coming from Madera. If anyone else is staying there, PM me and maybe we can meet up and discuss our next 6 months of fun!

What sportbiker! You didn't get the letter stating you Shall stay at a hotel the night before at your expense? Better check your mail box, then call you B.I. ..
Gottcha
WAIT, before you actually do this....: It is only recommended for people that drive a long distance to get there. But if I were you, I would check the actual time on it takes from your home to the Academy on a Monday AND at the magic hour of reporting. This is not something you want to be late for. Oh just think of all the fun you'd be missing.

...and it takes WAY MORE than 20 to 30 minutes to get to W. Sac from Folsom in morning commute traffic.
...and it takes WAY MORE than 20 to 30 minutes to get to W. Sac from Folsom in morning commute traffic.
...and that's without even taking devious old Mr. Murphy into consideration. I don't know anything about the morning commute from Folsom to W. Sac, but I DO know that there's probably never been a more inopportune time in your life to get a flat tire, burst a radiator hose or have a 30-vehicle pile-up occur on the freeway in front of you. Imagine how it would feel to show up an hour late on the first day with dirt and grease all over your suit from changing a tire on the freeway shoulder. Personally, I NEVER give Murphy an opportunity like that!

I went to the Camp Snoopy website and found this descriptor:
Home to Snoopy, and his "Peanuts" pals
Camp Snoopy is an interactive, participatory experience, a place where parents can join their children in sharing the fun of many of the rides and attractions. Inspired by the majesty and beauty of California's High Sierra this six-acre Kid's Mecca boasts more than 30 attractions for the young -- and the young at heart!
I can't think of a better way to describe the yuks and giggles found at the CHP Academy!
