Tulsa - Tulsa investigators are trying to determine how a man shot and killed himself during a home invasion attempt Thursday afternoon.

It happened at a home in the 33-hundred block of King near Harvard.

A couple were inside the home during the dinner hour when a man tried to force his way in. But, before he got into the home, he fell and was killed by his own gun.

Officers are canvassing the area looking for more information. They say it will take a lot of work to figure out how the suspect made such a big mistake.

What mistake, sounds like everything turned out just fine.

Kinda reminds me of the morbidly funny "guy in the bathtub who used a loaded shotgun as a bong" scene in "Narc".

You just gotta love it when this happens....

Store Owner Shots Man Who Tries to Rob His Pharmacy
SHERMAN OAKS, August 19, 2006 - A man attempts to rob a pharmacy and ends up getting shot by the owner of the store. He is now hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said Saturday.

His accomplice was in police custody. The future of both remains uncertain.
The man made the robbery attempt at Maxsons Drugs on Ventura Boulevard at Hazeltine Avenue at 5:20 p.m. Friday, said Los Angeles police Officer Jason Lee. He walked into the pharmacy and demanded vicodin.

Wearing body armor, the would-be robber entered the store and wound up being shot several times in the chest by the store's owner, Lee said.

It was not immediately clear whether the robber was shot with his own gun, or a different weapon, Lee said.

The man then ran out of the store to a waiting getaway car - a black Volkswagen Golf driven by a different man, Lee said. Nothing was taken from the store, Lee said.

The driver of the car dropped the bleeding gunman off at Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center before fleeing, Lee said. He turned himself in to authorities at the LAPD West Valley Station just after 11 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Don Muniz of the Van Nuys Station, which is handling the investigation.

The gunman was last reported to be in critical condition, Lee said.

"Whether he'll survive these injuries is not yet known," LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore said.

If the gunman dies, the driver could potentially be charged in connection with his death, police said.
