Hi All!

I recently started following this site and have received many answers to questions that I had. Thank you all. Hopefully someone can help me with this "hurdle":

I have completed the process, (finished the medical and psych back in June) and have been corresponding with the State Personnel Board regarding my specific case of asthma. After quite a few letters back and forth, they came to the conclusion that because of my specific case of asthma I would not be able to perform the essential functions of the job. I have decided to appeal this decision, due to the fact that my asthma is very mild, and in my opinion (and 3 doctors' opinions) I could perform the essential functions of the job. I sent in my appeal letter a few days ago, with all medical documentation.

My question is, does anyone know (if the decision is reversed), how good are my chances of getting in the September 18th class? How long does the appeals process take? Thank you for any help in this case.

We had a couple of cadets in our class with asthma. One of them was always at the head of the pack (Green Tea) and didn't have any problems. Another hacked, wheezed, and panted their way to the back of the pack due to "asthma" nearly every run. Both of them graduated.

Let us know how your appeal process goes, hopefully you'll get to go in September!

 Oh, man! How could you forget about your legendary moniker?! I still see advertisements for green tea and it causes a smile to come across my face!

I do however remember our times at PMA, and it always brings a smile to my face whenever someone asks me, "What I do ?!"

It all depends on when the decision gets to CHU. Each appeal is different so there is no specific time period that they take. In other words, I don't think anybody knows the exact answer to the questions. Good Lluck.

Back in the day..I was told by the State Doctor that I could not perform the duties of this job because of injuries that I suffered in the military. I recieved a "second" opinion from another Doctor who forwarded his findings to the State. Lo and behold I am on the job now.can definately happen...just takes time....

I too had to get a letter from Orthopaedic Surgeon, to be cleared for the academy. I had a bicep/shoulder tear, and a rotator cuff tear from the military. I bounced back from aggressive physical therapy.

Hopefully, you'll be ok.

Remember the state has to cover its six.

I wish you the best with your appeal process. Just keep your head up and keep your eye on the prize.
