The annual Ripon emergency vehicle show will be Saturday, October 7th. It's one of the best. I will post more info as I get it.

I went last year, and it was great. There were a good deal of CHP cars from the 60s and 70s, and some Mustangs.

How was it, I'm interested in going, when did it start, and how long did it last...?

It's starts in the early/mid morning. I believe the awards ceremony is around 2pm and things kind of wind down after that.

The show was awesome. Tons of great cop cars, mostly from the 50s/60s/70s with some from as early as the 40s. There were some from the 80s as well. There were also some brand new vehicles on display from various surrounding agencies that were currently in service.

I didn't participate in the show, but I could have. I have a ex CHP 2000 Ford CVPI

Where is Ripon at? Is this mostly a LE show or is it LE, Fire & Medical?

Where is Ripon at? Is this mostly a LE show or is it LE, Fire & Medical? Ripon is near highway 99 between Stockton and Modesto.

The show has fire, medic, LE, and military stuff.

You can browse photos of previous Ripon (and many other EV) shows here:

Good pictures of last year's show here also:

The show starts early at 8am, the code 3 parade is at about noon and things are pretty well wrapped up by 2 or 3pm. There is also a cruise from Ripon's community center to the Sonic drive-in at 6pm the night before.

I looked at all the photos and these two get my vote as the most classic.

The Dodge is a 1961 Polara, only the second year for 4-door model purchases and this one is owned by a retired CHP officer. The '67 Olds Delmont 88 with the "Apprehender" police package looked good on paper but failed to live up to expectations in the field. This restored example is one of the very few that remain.

In 1979, the CHP began their now famous "Special Purpose Vehicle Study" and this 1979 Plymouth Volare station wagon represented the utility class downsized wagon entry. It was powered by a 318ci 4bbl V-8 and 12 were purchased and tested along with 12 each Chevrolet Malibus, Ford Fairmonts and Z/28 Camaros. The CHP declared the experiement a success as they they learned a great deal about small block, mid-sized patrol-class cars and pony car based pursuit class cars which then lead directly to the decison to spec and purchase the first of their Mustangs in 1982.

Has the patrol always used the same font and star logo?

The door scripts were added in late 1959 and updated with the logo in 1998.

Ha! I'm a bit knowledgeable but the real experts in this field have probably forgotten more than I know!
Mostly, it helps to just be good at looking things up.

The pre-registered show field is now up to 92 cars! Here's five that are coming from one collection that includes some exceedingly rare restored CHP units:

Unless I somehow missed it, can you give us directions to the event? I looked on the Ripon site listed, which didn't say much at all.

Gracias~
