Makes for good sensationalist writing, but ammunition doesn't "discharge" when it burns. It does explode, but it's not like sniper fire or anything- more like a firecracker.

I have personal experience with ammunition shooting when exposed to a fire. I was in a garage fighting a fire and heard "popping", then the bullets started flying. A car parked in the garage had numerous bullet holes in it (and I know the difference between shrapnel and a bullet hole). No one had to tell me to get the he** out of there either.
