As a cadet hopeful this article was disturbing. While I have respect for Jerry Brown I think he needs to get his priorities in order. I know the CHP is funded through license and registration fees...well I am not going to rant but read the article and you will see why I am frustrated.

Just you wait until firearm qualifications are done by yelling "BULLETS, BULLETS, BULLETS!!!" at the target 25 yards away instead of using real ammo!

While I have respect for Jerry Brown... I'm guessing that's because you weren't here 1975-'83.

I feel for you guys and gals already done or nearly done with the process. I too hope to be hired someday (soon) but I know its alot tougher being so close to the beginning of a great career to only be told "WAIT LONGER!" I admire your persistence and devotion to wait til you can pursue ;) your dream career. But if you think about it, Gov. Brown can only hold off for so long til its a necessity. I too agree its a foolish decision on his behalf because its not only a disservice to the people of California and its tourists but to the officer's of the CHP as well. :tape: I will be waiting and dreaming in hopes to become a CHP officer, and I hope it will be a better state by then.

Can you say SNAFU? Next the brass in Sac will be complaining we're not doing our job and completely overlooking the fact that staffing levels are way down. Of course, overtime will be up so they'll be complaining about that too!
God Bless Governor Moonbeam. He's really good for a laugh!

I guess I will keep waiting. No real other option from where I sit. Hopefully it doesn't take another year.

The administration told the CHP that it wants to preserve the option of reducing staffing in the future without layoffs, and so wants to delay hiring until a decision on appropriate staffing levels is made and fulfilled.

The alternative to waiting is to apply to an allied agency, as positions open, until the patrol opens up. Years ago, the CHP gave the test for applicants every two years and you had to be a CA resident for one year immediately prior to application. Granted, officers currently working the field are going to be working a little harder, but eventually the agency will be permitted to accept trainees and get back to serving the people of CA.

If you really want the job, you have to be patient.

^This.

Its a long, complicated hiring process even for a civilian position like mine! From application to getting the job was easily over 24 months.

I was around...running around in my huggies. I respect all elected officials for what they do, but it doesn't mean I like them.

I think I interpreted this job posting correctly as a positive thing for us hopefuls
1) I hate to sound like "Debbie Downer", but a non-uniformed opening for a Data Processing Manager III in CHP Headquarters has no correlation whatsoever to the hiring (actual or potential) of uniformed personnel. It's not even an "apples/oranges" comparison - more like an "apples/purple unicorns with rainbow-colored horns on Jupiter" comparison.

2) This thread is straying dangerously close to becoming a "hiring" thread, which is currently a no-no here at CHPForums.
