There is a longer and better quality video on CNN.com but I can't get the direct link.

Here is another link, shorter version and low quality;

That has to be one of the scariest shootings that I have ever seen! I can't imagine how he made it through that, but thank God that he did and the guys where caught

Here's the link: http://www.cnn.com/video/player/player.html?url=/video/law/2006/07/21/davis.tx.trooper.shot.court.kltv.KLTV

The trooper is lucky to be alive! The reporter said the tropper had to crawl back to his patrol car to call for help. Didn't the trooper have his hand-held radio on him??

Glad he's okay! He has his bullet-proof vest to thank.

I saw the video of the trooper addressing his attacker in court. I wanted to jump up and cheer after watching that.

It looks like the trooper had his gun drawn on the suspect way before the suspect could draw... the trooper should have fired earlier.

As I saw it, the trooper had his gun and attention directed at the passenger, who was refusing to obey his commands, when the driver pulled a gun from his waistband and began shooting the trooper.
So who was the trooper supposed to shoot, Aviator? Nothing like a little Sunday morning quarterbacking by an applicant. With your experience and expertise, you should do well during night stops if you make it to the Academy.

I've gotta agree there. It's real easy to say such a thing not knowing anything about policy, shooting investigations, wrongful death lawsuits, etc.....and having the luxury of watching a video of it from a safe and fully detached point of view and having the time to sit back and analyze it.....it's a whole different thing when YOU'RE the one who's all alone on the side of the road in the dark and have to make that decision in a split second with a million thoughts swirling through your head and your own butt on the line. You're going to take heat no matter which way you decide - but you freakin' better make it quick, and make it right!

Yeah, after I wrote that I almost considered deleting it because I was sure I'd receive responses like that. I actually did spend the time to think of what I would do in that situation, and the answer was that not being trained, I don't know. I decided to leave the posting up, because even though I realized I'd be critisized for the comment, I was also interested in what some others' viewpoints might be.

I counted the time the officer had to make a decision to fire. Only one second had elapsed from the time the suspect drew his gun to the time the officer had his gun drawn. At this point, I believe it would take me a lot longer than a second to decide whether I would pull the trigger.

I'm really not trying to be a know it all and certainly hope I didn't offend anyone.

Here's a link to a CBS early show interview with him:

Some shooting videos you watch and you can honestly say, "Wow...that cop did everthing right." On this one, there are clear, blatant and basic officer safety issues on that video. He sacraficed officer safety to document for his dash-cam. I wont discuss officer safety tactics here.

But here is a quote an FTO taught me about 9 years ago......

"Make every traffic stop extending the olive branch of peace, while having a tactical plan to kill everyone inside the vehicle."
-Gordon Graham.

I'm not trained in this but my gut tells me allowing both guys out of the truck at the same time wasn't a smart move....JMO

Leave it to the one and only Gordon Graham to come up with that cool thought process.....
