you should see the boys out in hawaii, they wear tongs, (slippers), shorts and a t-shirt, not the tongs you're thinking. they do a lot off ot during the cane harvest, kinda like our cozeep, maysleep.... they get to take there own personal vehicles, all they need is a little blue light. like hawaii 5-0. now that's where im " lateraling" to.
i love wearing those wool uniforms in a 90 degree weather..
wrong. they wear standard blue uniforms. their ot isn't spent sitting in their cars, either. they get to stand out in the sun with the dark blue uniform, hat, and white gloves on. they use their personal vehicles, but it's how they subsidize the cost of having a nice ride. "cane harvest," haha. no slippahs for da kine, either. even on moloka'i, which is the most lax of all the islands (though the moloka'i police are actually maui-run), the cops are by the book. we looked into hpd and maui county extensively before making the jump to the mainland.
and in our experience, it was actually cheaper there than it is here. sure, you can find milk for $7.00 a gallon there, but not if you shop smart. gas was always cheaper than socal and unless you were looking to buy a mansion in maui county, housing was comparable.
looks cool and comfortable. i have a pic of this arizona DPS female officer i would like to pose. but dont know how, i cant even seem to find the enter key. is it my fat finger s or are my eyes going?
ps. they love chp over there. theyre much more linient than us, they tend to let a lot of stuff go. i canrt belieive she took my chp golf cap for her kid. arghhhh!

I think the 115+ degree weather may have something to do with them being able to wear shorts:shock: . But it would be nice in some areas of the state that get that hot, like out in the desert.

To post pics, you need to upload the pic to a hosting site, such as ImageShack (http://imageshack.us/)
Once you up load it there, you will get a url code that will then allow you to post it.
On the Post a reply screen, you will see a button at the top of the box that shows a mountain w/sun.
Click on that button and it will throw code into your reply that looks like this [img.] [/img.] (minus the .)
Put the URL from image shack in between the code and hit Preview.
The picture should show up and no code should show.
Then hit Post so we can see who gave up her Kid for a hat  (good one RetCHP)

Actually CHP has shorts but no one likes to wear them because they are not pratical and way to short. At least that is what my old Lt. said when I asked him the same question. He might just have been feeding me bs.
The only CHP officers who are allowed to wear shorts are bicycle patrol. Everybody else is in trousers, and it's been that way ever since I came on (actually, we didn't even have bicycle patrol then, so nobody wore shorts.)
I have mixed feelings about it - it would definitely be more comfortable in some areas (i.e. the desert), but then again I've worked around a number of PDs and SOs that allow their officers to wear shorts, and I've come to the conclusion that there are some people who just should not wear them in a uniformed capacity....skinny, pasty legs and knobby knees (or big, pasty, flabby legs) just look unprofessional with the uniform.
Go ahead - think about the people you work with in your own area.....I'm sure you can think of at least a handful who would NOT exactly cut a dashing figure in tan shorts!

Good luck with that....one of my classmates left to hawaii after he had been on the job a bit. He now has to work two jobs to make a living as an officer over there. Aloha ;)
The Needles area is currerntly supposed to be testing a "hot weather" uniform. It is not shorts, but a light weight BDU type uniform that breaths better, is lighter and is wash and wear. My Sgt told me yesterday he was going to try and make us a test area. Most of the offices on I-5 from Redding to the grapevine and all through out the desert should have an alternate uniform to help officers. I don't think shorts would ever be approved, but we'll see.
