The Dodge Charger is a pretty sweet car. I'd love to see one of those patrol cars on the street!

(Yeah, Old thread, I know) - Is it true this will be the replacement vehicle to Ford's Crown Vic since For stopped production of Crown Vics?

With no cars in production was pretty stupid of them to bid on our latest vehicle contract, which they just won. (Read: CVPI's for the foreseeable future)

You're entirely correct:

As part of Ford's The Way Forward (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Way_Forward) restructuring plan, for 2008 Ford has discontinued the retail version of the Crown Victoria but will continue making the Police Interceptor model as well as the commercial versions, like Ford of Canada did in 1999.

If only Mustang made a four door...just for the extra room in the back...

I'm mad that Ford hasn't started using the 3 valve per cylinder heads on the Crown Vic. I mean, they're using the 24 valve 4.6 in the Mustang GT and Explorer, why not the Crown Vic?

It would fit in the engine bay just fine, have more power and torque (about 300hp and 300lb-ft), still run on regular gas, and they could end production of the 2 valve per cylinder heads for the 4.6.

I'd also like to see Ford replace the Crown Vic's 4R75W transmission with the 5R75W.

Yeah we can go on for days about different engines. The coolest curser I can remember was back around 1992 when I saw a CHP rolling in a Mustang with a HUGE ‘whale tail’ spoiler...It was a cool site.
Manufactures are building faster street cars every day. A 400hp engine is almost nothing now a days…

The car sucks You've driven one on patrol?

I'm a Crown Vic enthusiast, so naturally I'm not so crazy about the Charger. And making a midsize sedan and calling it a Charger is sacrilege,.

If they felt they absolutely had to use a classic name from their past, Dodge should have called it a Coronet. (the Coronet was offered as a 4 door sedan, the Charger never was)

Yes, My Dept. was the very first Police Dept. to have the vehicle despite what people think that Auburn Hills PD was the first. Its a Ok car. I Prefer a CV or a Caprice any time . I drove one for awhile , the room inside the vehicle sucks, The seats do not feel comfortable, And my main thing is the brakes cannot handle police work. One thing Ill give it is it will haul ass.
