And there's so much substantive content on Spike TV. I feel my forehead growing. Have you seen the commercial for Geico, with the cavemen? Spike TV: the Caveman's channel.

No kidding NorCal. I cover the mirrors in my bathroom. It's a miracle I go to work with a straight part in my hair.

I settle for reruns of any form of Law and Order during the summer. Preferably the older the better since at my age you forget and it is like seeing a show you never saw before............did I say that???

I did enjoy the Jean-Michael Costeau special on sharks the other night on PBS. I have never grabbed the dorsal on a great white but I did dive around sharks in Saint Thomas and Curacao.

-Beach Patrol: Miami Beach
-Cops

She is a total sweetheart! She PM'd me last night at around 9:10 and didn't say anything about leaving..Maybe she's been busy and will get on later today...And about her avatar, maybe she didn't want to hear any more rude and uncalled for comments regarding her appearance...

hrm. she also pm'ed me, though i think you'd call her anything but sweet if you read what she said... something about "tired, old, dried-up officers' wives" and what badge bunnies like her like to do to married officers... definitely a class act whose self-worth truly shines! if only i could have such stellar people in my life. :::sigh:::
That's because you were mean to her in the first place!

Honest wannabees...someone (I think Mac) recently wrote there are three things that will cause you to lose your badge quickly..if you are ever lucky enough to get one in the first place. those are Booze, Brutality and Broads...This has been just a short look into the abyss at one of the three.
If you get all hyper over someone posting a picture and some suggestive comments what on earth are you going to do when offered the real thing one night at work? And what are you going to tell your Sgt. and your wife when it turns to crap as it always does?
This forum is supposed to be about mentoring future CHP officers. SB 405 gives good advice above and he aint even a cop!

No, I didn't leave for good. I just took down my photo and edited some of my posts. Contrary to popular belief, I came here for info. on joining the CHP, not for a date. I went on my ride along today and really found it to be an awesome experience. It confirmed for me that it is something I want to pursue. I have relatives that work in LE and they have encouraged me as well. I'm not going to let a few rude people deter me from pursuing my goals. I have encountered many nice people on here and I appreciate all your sweet emails. I am not here to banter back and forth like junior high. So I will not be responding to immature posts. This forum is for CHP info. not the Jerry Springer show. I apologize if my photos offended anyone, that was not my intention.

Well, I missed a lot of the colorful banter by not being on fow awhile...

I relly don't have an issue with sweetdancer's current job; there's nothing vulger about the human body. What I have a HUGE issue with is the way that industry treats women!

I also have issue with this being a forum about CHP. There is simply a time and a place for everything.

I would have said something sooner, but as an applicant, I watch my p's & q's everywhere, especially around here. I've seen plenty of pm's from other applicants who feel in the same boat about this. And as an applicant, I'm really let down by the behavior of some of the officers. We applicants are supposed to show that we walk the straight & narrow, and we come here because it's a great resource. To see officers making comments that would be frowned upon by BIs is just tacky!

Different people behave and communicate differently. I know that officers have a different perspective on the matter and they probably personally know at least one person that has been in trouble because of women.

Their comments are all part of being old (oops wise) and crusty.

Needless to say... I find it interesting that you post "I watch my p's & q's everywhere" and then proceed to bash people in the next sentence.

Pupdog, don't put your faith in men/women you will always be let down. We (Officers) are only human, we make mistakes and say things we shouldn't. However, each Officer on this forum has earned that right! I think you are wise to watch your P's and Q's, remember you still have something to prove and earn! I have been out of the academy for 1 yr and I still have so much to prove, to myself and my peers. This job is not fair! You will be treated horrible by the public, get stuck with crappy shifts, be treated like a FNG until you are blue in the face. From the day you step into the academy till the day you retire, there will always be someone who out ranks you(shtty shifts), someone who gets away with things that you cant(Slugs), and someone second guessing you (SGT's/ Public D). If at all possible wipe the thought of fairness out of your mind now, while you are young! It will save you alot of time and energy.

P.S. I think you are wrong about the body and it not being vulgar, I was at the "waterslides" here in Rapid City, there was a Whole lot of nasty in some of these bathing suits.

I must be missing something. I even re-read the two threads of note, and I didn't see any verified officers behaving poorly. I didn't even see anyone who alludes to being an officer make any comments out of line. There are some sarcastic comments as well as possibly politically incorrect descriptions of fact (that the "three B's" get officers into trouble), but nothing that would embarrass an individual or the Department.

You've got to remember that officers are often cynical. This is often expressed in humor or as sarcasm -- or blunt honesty. It comes from seeing the worst of society on a daily basis and often having no control over it.

My point is that I often have to "bite my tougue" when posting in the public forum. My initial reaction to many posts may be considered rude or politically incorrect. For the most part, I try to phrase things in a more sensitive manner -- but should I have to? This web site is not sponsored by the Department. It is not intended to represent the CHP, its mission, or its policies. The officers who post here are off-duty. Sure, we're held accountable for actions on our own time, but there's this little thing called a nexus. Mere knowledge someone is an employee of the Department does not create a nexus. Writing something on a public forum (with disclaimers) that some individuals may consider to be sarcastic, rude, or in poor taste, should not embarrass the CHP.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this, so I'll stop. I'm glad to facilitate a discussion among those interested in law enforcement, just remember this: One of the first requirements to be a cop is to have thick, very thick, skin.

My ride along was great, but the only action was ticketing speeders. I would have loved to have something more thrilling, but it was still cool.

Wow, I bet that fatality being his first experience was a lot to take in. You either have the stomach for it, or you don't. I've seen plenty of deceased accident victims from interning at the Coroner's office. It's something you don't ever forget.

Brains, beauty, guts AND an iron stomach! Good lord, you have it all! Go on as many ride alongs as they'll let you.. The experience will do you good...Yeah, from what he told me, it was quite the experience for him..But from that moment on, he knew it was his calling..He wanted to become an EMT or firefighter, and took a handful of classes to get him on his way, but the whole volunteering thing wasn't going to work for him..Then, he met an officer that took him under his wing and showed him all about the CHP.. This officer used to come and take his lunch in teh guard shack where my bubba worked while stationed at the NPS in Monterey as a military policeman. I guess he felt safe surrounded by the crazy m-16's and stuff my husband carried while working

Unfortunately, Pupdog, cynisizm is the hallmark of most veterans (and some rookies as well). I apologize for us all. The whole point of this forum is to give applicants a REAL picture of the misunderstood subculture of public safety service. We're not saints but that doesn't automatically make us sinners either. Help the coroner bag a few bodies and you begin to look at the world starkly. Devote one eight-hour shift to keeping people alive on a beat (the absolute bottom line of our job) and you see the selfishness and carelessness of others.

Since this is a forum we share words and miss out on the nuances of personal contact. I for one do not want to round-file an applicant's hopes based on their life's experience. But like it or not, that will come up in every QAP. Most officer's on this department would be professionally intimidated by sweetdancer because of her current job, not necessarily because of the photo she posted. When cops are intimidated they tend to shoot first and ask questions later out of self-preservation. Sorry if that has happened here sweetdancer. Also, when advising/mentoring the next generation of officers, we are also looking at the obvious and accessing what sorts of hurdles individuals will have to overcome. One stark reality which was breached by sweetdancer is that public safety service requires a completely asexual attitude from shift start to shift end. That doesn't mean we shelve compassion or feelings. It means, as with race, we ignore the obvious. I've stopped many attractive women; some who left me momentarily speechless. But I did my job based on the facts. Looks, in American culture, count for way too much.

That photo, sweetdancer, which you've received a harsh education in the public safety subculture, may have supercharged some hormones but that's not really the issue here. If you're really serious about pursuing a career in public safety, especially police work, you need to begin looking at everything you do from a conservative perspective. Like it or not. This is not a job for free spirits in any incarnation. My middle son, who wishes to become a cop when he separates from the Army, has tattoos covering most of his upper body. I've warned him time and again to keep his hands, wrists, neck, and face completely free of tattoos, just so he will be able to make it past the hiring process. He's accepted the fact that should he be hired he'll have to wear long sleeves his entire career. Public safety is a very difficult career mainly because we're judged more harshly by the public we serve than we judge them. Judgement, regardless of your religous convictions, is part of our daily grind. We size up everyone we contact. The photo simply, to be blunt, was unprofessional. Unlike other forums, this one is visited either by active duty LE or applicants. We expect a certain degree of decorum because of the nature of this forum. Were I to post a photo of myself, shirtless, and holding a 12oz. can of Budweizer (yuk!), I'd have been pounced on just as harshly. Maturity grows with years of experience so, please, just accept it all as experience. If you're really serious about a career in LE, we are here to help you, along with anyone else.

Makakona appears to be the only one who understood what I was talking about.

Personally, I find that when someone tags another as not being able to take it, it's a cop out (no pun intended). This reminds me of a time at school last year when the guy next to me in political science class (unfortunatly one of those teachers who let the inmates run the asylum) was saying whatever he was saying, very loud, and as usual, every other word out of his mouth was some form of swearing. Now, swearing doesn't offend me a bit, but there's a time & place. I mentioned to him that stating his point in such a way diminishes the message that he's trying to get across. His reaction? "OOh, the 'sensitive' woman can't take it!" And being a class full of a few more guys (the type that would turn their wines/mothers stomachs if they saw their behavior...just bad luck that so many would up in one class together), the rest chimed in & joined him. He didn't actually bother to listen to what I was saying, but perhaps I was expecting too much. Aern't I the silly one for actually thinking people should behave a bit better in school & save that language for another time!

Oh, and there's just one more thing...just this little thing...you see, I've got this loose end...
And you guys lost me otherwise...TV is pointless now that Seinfeld is gone. All I watch is "Columbo" re-runs I get from Netflix.
