Big mistake made, but at the same time. There is not a single person, that is perfect.

There must be some gratifying feeling that the majority of us are thankfully missing out on, that you obtain from shoplifting. There's been several celebraties charged with this also, and presumably most had access to funding, but chose the illicit route. Mostly we know that celebraties are predisposed to have compromised values, but cops...you expect better of, since they actually arrest wrongdo'ers for these crimes.
Since he was suspected of having done this before, he's obviously not good enough at it to be a pro.
Maybe it was the cop portion of him that never allowed him to be good at it. If you know deep down that it's wrong, it's hard to make a good showing when doing it.

Klepto is a known disorder, and this guy clearly needs help to get a handle on his mental issues. Hopefully the DA charges it as a misdo rather than felony so he has a chance to move on with his life once he deals with his problems.

Funny how the previous comments show compassion for the accused officer. I'll bet the comments would be different if it were a celebrity or just another mope off the street.

How many officers on this forum have arrested a shoplifter and said to him, "gee, perhaps you have a disorder that makes you steal. I sure hope the DA knocks this down to a misdemeanor so you can get on with your life!"?

Are you kidding me? I'm more gracious than the average joe but this is inexcusable. Not sure if you intended to defend the guy but I have no sympathy if this story is validated and true.

Thats why I said big mistake. It shows that no one is perfect.

Key word is BUT. This word is generally followed by an excuse.

I know the speed limit is 70 MPH BUT...

Due to your incorrect use of grammar and punctuation I may have misunderstood you.

Well, I'd assume if he was stopped by law enforcement, and it was just an error, he'd have been ushered back to clear it up. But most cops would use standard interview procedures, and then form an opinion as to whether there was an indication that he was involved in a crime, instead of just a misunderstanding.
So unless there is a grand conspiracy to put this guy down over some political or personal issue, the cop who stopped him must have some pretty compelling reason to arrest. Unless he's in on the conspiracy:biggrin:

I do Assets Protection for Target and the worst items to steal/attempt to steal are the big ticket items that are spider-wrapped. Those items are counted every morning and every night, so we know when they go missing. Even if we didn't catch you the first time we'll just review video and see who it was and wait for them to come in again. Plus, some of the newer stores have those items under motion-sensor cameras that alert us anytime someone is looking at them.

Appreciate the info, but are you sure you want to put that out in a public forum?

It's nothing really confidential. People knowing that wouldn't really help someone steal, if anything I would see it as a deterrent.

I say so too. Keeping the morally wavering honest is probably a lot cheaper than prosecuting them when they weaken and offend.

Actually, one thing a lot of people don't know is that Target charges offenders for the companies time. So that $30 or $40 item you stole will end up costing you a couple hundred dollars.
