Is it typical to have your CVSA at the beginning of your backround? My BI contacted me to set up my CVSA and I just started backround recently. Also, who administers the CVSA and how long does it typically take?

Thanks in advance for you response.

I think it's a good sign. That means your background is almost finish.

The process takes about 1-2 hours.

good luck.

I had my CVSA scheduled a short time after my initial interview with my BI. So if you had your initial interview already I believe its pretty typical. It was administered at a local CHP by another BI in my division. The entire process was a couple of hours, so make sure to plan your time accordingly. I really don't want to divulge too much. Best advise I can give you is to disclose everything and you will do fine.

Sounds like things are going good.

As stated it will be administered by another BI. Going into it I was nervous since I am not a fan of lie detectors, but the officer administering it was really nice and by the time I actually took it I was very comfortable.

Good info, thanks. I am actually scheduled to take it tomorrow. Do you think there is still a chance at the Sept. 18 academy?

I read in a previous thread that the CHP is sending out CTC III-06 invitations until August 18, 30 days before the start of the academy. So you still have a fair chance to make it.

Hm, Im not throwing any flags here, but I was told today by a RO that they have been known to invite people to Academy classes as late as 1-3 days after the academy starts (due to no shows, etc) I was basically told not to rule out being invited until after a week of the academy's start date. *shrug*

Im sure that RO has alot more knowledge about the invites for the CHP academy than me. It would be logical to invite more applicants due to no shows, additional space, etc. More reason for us to work harder to make it to the September academy!

They are doing 30-day notifications for the Academy this time around.

I took my CVSA 6 days after my initial BI meeting. I Had my final BI meeting right after the CVSA (MY BI had been working my case for about two months before the initial though). So no, I don't think you have a problem.

Ummm... No, it doesn't. The CVSA may fall anywhere during your background and where it falls may have nothing to do with the status of your case. Don't start packing your bag for the Academy just yet.

As has been stated, the CVSA will be administered by an officer trained in its use, most likely another Background Investigator. Plan on more time than less, I say leave at least five hours for any interview you have so that you won't be rushed. Otherwise, there's not a whole lot to prepare for.

As for the invites, the word is to give 30-days notice before the September class, but I'll believe it when I see it. No doubt, advance notice would benefit all involved, but if the class isn't full 30-days prior, I'll be surprised if they close it.
