How long do have to be in the military before you apply in order to get the few extra points? Do you have to be full time military at some time or does just being in the National Guard or Reserves count?

What I was told was you actually had to be a veteran meaning out and discharged...I think for National Guard and Reserve there is a certain amount of continous active duty...Im not completely sure...u might want to call the State Personnel Board ans ask.

I am going to make it!

You have to verify your time in service with a DD 214. Which means active duty time. If you are still in your do not receive the points. Still call and double check with the state personnel board.

I was told last year when I was still on active duty that I couldnt claim points until I was out of the military...so no, from my point of view and what I have experienced...no. But as I said before you might want to ask the state personnel board.

Read page 2 of the SPB-1093 (http://www.spb.ca.gov/Employment/documents/spb1093.pdf) form, it provides the details.

It looks to me as if you might have to put in a few active duty years. If you want to ask some one in person why don't you ask Staff SGT Riley he is in the military and works for the CHP.

Mmmm-Kay, I'll copy and paste. Sorry, a pet peeve is asking a question when a perfectly good definitive resource is right in front of you.

"Veteran" means any person who has served full time for 30 days or more in the armed forces in time of war or in time of peace in a campaign or expedition for service in which a medal has been authorized by the government of the United States, or during the period September 16, 1940, to January 31, 1955, or who has served at least 181 consecutive days since January 31, 1955, and who has been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable, but does not include any person who served only in auxiliary or reserve components of the armed forces whose service therein did not exempt him or her from the operation of the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940. Emphasis added.

As I read it, six months full duty, no dishonorable discharge, and you're good.
