The headline is misleading. Probably to encourage people to buy the phone app.
The details of the case reveal the officer didn't have current training and calibration

I'm surprised the judge didn't require expert witness testimony before admitting those app printouts into evidence.

Traffic court, is kangaroo court in California, and often for both sides.

But the more likely reason is that he or she did not rely on those anyway.

The judge didn't hit him with the 26 in a 25?

No, and most officer will give you a small cushion too. In most cases a 3mph is about right, Because unless you have a digital tech. The needle is sometimes a bit off or you cant really tell.

A friend of mine brought this same kind of evidence into a court room and the judge did not allow it. It just depends on the judge:popcorn:

"It probably also helped that in court, the police officer could not remember when his radar gun had last been calibrated."

This is the reason it was dismissed. It had nothing to do with the GPS. The Officer better be prepared to testify and present records to get a conviction.

Not a defense. That's why you are expected to calibrate your speedometer as often as necessary to ensure it reports your speed accurately at all times. Defective equipment is not an excuse. If you don't trust your speedometer, you can always drive slower if that's what it takes :)
