Hi there, I got a ticket over a week ago for "failure to obey a posted sign" and also a fix it ticket for a broken tail light. I got the invoice in the mail and it said I have two options:
A) Pay $260 with proof of correction
B) Pay $300 without proof of correction

So my question is, if I pay the $300 do I still have to mail in my original ticket with it signed as corrected? I'm a little confused because it says I have to do so for fixable tickets. The lights been fixed but it saves me a trip to the PD.

Thanks

260 0r 300 bucks for a correctable citation sounds a bit high to me. Are you sure that is the part that is what the fine is for?

The disobey a sign part (probably 21461(a) VC) is not correctable. Total fine is less if you fix the correctable part of the ticket, I believe if you correct it they just charge you $25 fee for processing.

Oh, I see now. 40.00 for the process fee if you don't want to get it signed off. I think that pretty much answers your question then. No need to go if you have 40.00 extra to contribute to the muni.

If you go to your local CHP office, they will sign it off for free - some local agencies charge for sign-offs. You can also ask any peace officer you find to sign off the cite as well (don't do it while they are on an enforcement contact, it will put them and you in a dangerous position and they likely won't do it. Also, don't interupt an officer who is eating their lunch, that's just bad form).

I know this doesn't apply to every area, but in my area we can not sign off cites in the field. The reason is that our courts also require a stamp on the ticket that is only kept at the office.

Yea, I think they combined the total fee of both tickets, just more expensive if I don't want to show proof that I got it fixed. Just wanted to make sure, don't want a traffic warrant on my record for a fix it!

It says 38300 CVC - Fail to obey sign

Take the cheaper route! If you fail to make repairs for the mechanical violation you risk receiving another ticket for failure to comply. Ignoring official notifications can get very costly.

Besides, having a properly working tail lamp is to your benefit in the long run.

The original post says, "The lights been fixed but it saves me a trip to the PD." Looks like the OP took care of it, already.
