Well I have been working out for a while now, but since I recently graduated I am taking the extra free time and working out more. I still am not up spending as much time as I want to, but I am working on it.

My questions is that I am running a 3.5 mile loop on the streets and averaging about an 8:10mile. I think that I am doing good, but was wondering what the officers though about this time/distance? My plans are to do this for a little bit longer and then bump it up to 5 miles and no more. I can get the 3.5 miles just fine, but am looking to lower my time before I add more distance.

I would say the time is pretty good, but one thing you need to remember, is you will have to keep this time while doing hundreds of push up and sit ups before you run. But as far as the time per mile, I would say you are on track. Plus, with almost 3 months til we go to the Academy, there is plenty of time to make your time even better. We have the benefit of knowing the entire summer that we will be going to the Academy, its much easier to motivate yourself that way isnt it.

By the way, did you get your SOP for the academy yet?

I would suggest the opposite -- work on five miles at a slower pace and then work back to an eight minute mile or so... Also, as was mentioned, you should run after your normal workout. Think about it this way, on a long run, which is better: Fly past everyone the first three miles and then run out of steam, or finish but be at the back of the pack?
