Hi forks!

Just wondering and wanted to prepare myself.

Question 1: After you get your recommendation, you get SOP manual. I understand that we have a test about SOP after we get into academy. Is this multiple choice and does this test include Aural Brevity Codes?

Question 2: About the physical part of the academy, I understand that you need to do 10 pull ups, 70 push ups, 70 sit ups and 3 to 5 mile run within in 8 to 9 min per mile. Is this about right? If you can?t do 10 pull ups or can?t run 9 min per mile, do you get disqualified?

Question 3: When you get a final package or acceptance letter to attend next academy, do we have orientation before the academy?

Question 4: To prepare for academy, what do we need to pack and what not?

Thanks

Keep in mind that I am in roughly the same spot in the hiring process as you are,

1. Who cares if the test is multiple choice, essay, verbal, or play acted? Read the SOP several times and be ready for whatever. I don't know if the ABC's are on the test or not and they are not in my SOP. They are listed on this website though and you should be studying them. Better to know them and not need them if you know what I mean (and eventually you will need them).

2. Be ready to do the more than the minimum, period! I don't think they DQ you, but life sure can't be pleasant if you can't do the minimum. I've been on the Crossfit (www.crossfit.com) train for over six months. The workouts are a bit**, but they are helping me prepare physically and mentally. If a Crossfit workout is too easy for you, you probably are not doing it right. In addition to the Crossfit workout of they day, you should be doing the standard warm-up (found on the site), which includes a daily dose of push-ups, sit ups, pull ups, etc. With the amount of time there is before September, I don't think the PT staff will be very interested in an "I didn't have time to get ready" excuse.

3. My BI told me that each division hosts and orientation on the Thursday before the academy. Spouses and family are invited according to him.

4. The link that 405 posted answers this one pretty well. I think you'll get a packet with your invite giving better instructions; there are others here that have a packet that can answer that better though.

Good luck,

Thanks Dipmo,

As far as the orientation... My sister is getting married on that day~! I wonder if everyone have to be there no matter what...

Anyone here not get an SOP at the time of recommendation? I didn't get one... but was recommended for hire and am awaiting psych results. Thought I should ask you all before harassing my BI about it

You should ask your BI. I got mine and I was told that we will be test on the SOP, it stands for Cadet Stnadard Operating Procedure.

As for the orientation, I don't believe you are required to attend. It will help a bit, but it will mostly be a lot of what you have been hearing throughout the process. If you get an SOP before the Academy, it will most likely have been updated by the time you actually get there. You will get the most current SOP within your first couple days. You will have sufficient time to study it and pass the test if you manage your time wisely.
