View Full Version : Learning Express Book
I just received my Learning Express Preparation Guide (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1576850056/qid=1129592602/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-7462672-4544819?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) from Amazon, I bought it for reference and to show those in the hiring process. I haven't looked at this since I was in the process seven years ago. While a bit outdated, this book is worth its weight in gold. Anyone in the hiring process should shell out the twenty-four bucks for this immediately. (No, I don't own Amazon stock or get a cut.)
There is comprehensive information about the hiring process with an emphasis on the written test. There are also two sample tests including the dreaded "fill in the blank" section.

I bought this book a few years back, and between all my friends, we have all taken away a lot from it. I have a friend going for S/O and another for a local City. Both have said it has helped them greatly. Hopefully soon enough, I will have one to pass along to someone else, as I hope I won't need it anymore!! (BI intial tommorow.)

Hey red if you're looking to resell it, I'm in the market for one. Assuming it's in good shape and you want to part with it. Let me know.

I used this book as well. The only thing different I would suggest is to go through http://www.learnatest.com. Not only do you get the awesome book but you get to have a mock essay graded by a REAL person. I NAILED the written test and it was due primarily to this book and online test!!!

I also used this book, as DW said, it is worth its weight in gold. The mock tests are good, but it also prepared me mentally for all the stages of the hiring process. I recomend it to anyone who is interested in going through the hiring process.

Any word if they are coming out with a newer one. That one was made in '96. Or is it still so useful that they don't need to update it?
The information that is outdated is stuff like pay scale, web links, etc... As far as the testing process process, nothing has changed with the possible exception of our schedule.
I used the book back in April and May and it was a big help. The book gives you a good idea of the test format and what to expect. The practice tests were also very helpful. It was full of useful information.
