I heard about it first hand.... The officer responded to a call of a reckless driver. He located the reckless vehicle, and when he went to make an enforcement stop, they guy took off and the pursuit was on. They reached speeds of 100 MPH, and at one point the suspect vehicle blacked out, and went the wrong way on SR-99. Eventually the suspect vehicle got into a collision, and an altercation ensued when the officer contacted the suspect. They got into a fight, and at some point the officer sustained a head injury. Subsequently the officer shot the suspect, ending the conflict. The officer received stitches for his head wound, and the suspect succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital.
The officer did his job correctly ... he went home to his family!

Sometimes it is just like hand to hand combat in war out there. I hope the Department gives him total support in this. What they are doing to some of the GIs these days makes me sick.
My hat is off and I salute this officer who overcame a deadly assault and returned to his family at the end of the day. That is the way all these stories should end.
I heard that the officer is about 5'9 190lbs and the guy he faught was about 6'3-6'5 over 300lbs. Is this true?

If this is true, even more reason why Deadly Force was necessary.

There has been no news coverage about this incident at all.
Also if it was the officer that I was told it was, he is closer to 5'6" as I'm 5'9" and I'm taller than him

VISALIA ? A man was shot and killed by a California Highway Patrol officer Saturday after a high-speed chase and then a fight in which the suspect struck the officer several times with his own police baton.
The man, whose identity was not yet available Monday afternoon, began a high-speed chase at 8:53 p.m. Saturday in Earlimart, said CHP officer Scott Harris. The car had been stolen in Porterville.
The officer, whose name was not made public Monday, tried to pull over the man for speeding, but he failed to stop and headed south on Highway 99, Harris said.
At one point, the man began heading north in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 with his headlights off, Harris said. Speeds reached 100 mph.
Eventually, the man turned around and headed south again just before he lost control of the sedan and crashed into the center divider.
The man and officer both got out of their vehicles, and a struggle ensued, Harris said.
During the fight, the man got the officer's baton from a hook on his belt, Harris said. The man then hit the officer in the head several times.
Harris said the CHP officer was able to step away from the man, pull his gun and fire four shots. Harris said he didn't know how many struck the driver.
The man was taken to Delano Regional Medical Center, where he died.
The CHP officer was taken to the hospital to treat cuts and wounds to his head. The officer was later released. He remains on leave because of his injuries and the shooting investigation, Harris said.
