Way to go! Post up when you get the letter.
When are you guys/gals planning on going up to the academy? I am thinking of driving up that friday and staying with family that live close by or staying at a hotel. I would love to have some type of meet the night before, sunday, where we can all meet each other. At the very least we should meet together that morning so we can go in knowing a couple of people.
Just my idea, as it gets closer maybe I will start a new topic on it.

Extend your legs back into a push up position.
Bring your knees back in towards chest and stand back up.

Well I got my letter in the mail today saying that I was accepted for the September 18th academy! I am so happy to have it as I deferred the last academy I figured that I would be one of the last people to get a letter for the next academy, guess I was wrong.
This post is for all people who get there letter. Whenever you get your letter post up so that we can have a running tally of who from this site is going.

Dang, judging by CW's timeline, I'm about a month out, minimum. Congrats guys!
Congrats to all of you. Start working out now, and don't forget to bone up on your writing skills - far more Cadets flunk out because they can't write than because they can't run or do pushups! Make sure you have a firm grip on spelling, grammar and sentence structure before you report in.

Congrats! If you haven't been preparing already, don't wait any more!!
-- Don't worry about hitting the weights, just eat right and RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN...
-- Circuit training with minimal rest in between exercises will help, too.
-- Also, mentally prepare yourself for the yelling and stress.
-- Brush up on your writing and spelling skills, as was mentioned.
You've all expressed a huge amount of interest and excitement. Remember, anything worth having is worth fighting for...
SEPTEMBER WILL BE HERE IN A HURRY!!! Good luck!!!!

Dipmo, when did you have your final interview? Your process is going faster than mine did. I had my QAP back in Sept of 2005!
Mremmaye, it only took a week or two for SPB to call to schedule the psych oral. Don't worry, it always happens when you least expect it. I was doing an overtime shift at work, in the middle of writing a parking ticket. Needless to say, it made my day:biggrin:

I had my psych interview on 6/20, same as you. MY QAP was in January, but the background was quick. I'm hoping for the best, but I'm preparing mentally for the worst. It would be bad to get the thin letter and not even have considered the possibility that it might come.

Well the doc. was very cold and I left the meeting not knowing how to feel. I know everyone else felt the same way when they left, it is probably just the waiting that is messing with my mind.
That and I'm trying to be mentally prepared either way.

Well Force I guess you were right. I spoke to CHU today and the nice lady there told me that I had cleared psych and that I should be expecting an academy invite soon. All that worrying for nothing.
And speaking of worry, the real stress starts soon guys and gals. If anyone from our little (and growing fast) group here quits I'm gonna be real mad!

I was thinking the same thing about the morning of. We will get split up once there, but we could make our way from the parking lot as a team. I read on the CHP website that drill and ceremony is where we will start to see team work amongst the class. To heck with that, I say it starts right here, from reading the boot posts when Nellie and Res-Q went in to haircuts and shoe shines, teamwork happens before we even report in. Who says the internet is good for nothing?

I recieved my offer/packet as well. It came the same week as an offcer for the July academy with a city PD. I decided to go with the PD, and I put in an inactive waiver for the CHP. CHP's a good agency, I just don't think it's where I will be happiest. Good luck everyone!

And again, I wait. I'm used to it by now. Finished background, did medical. I got a phone call for psych wanting to schedule it for a day I could NOT POSSIBLY go (lonely at the top, being manager of an itty bitty nobody for backup business!)...and it was one of those (for my schedule at least) be there yesterday appointments. More time than I'm comfy with has passed since then, and I REALLY hope that wasn't some sort of test. Hopefully SPB would see that I'm simply a VERY dedicated employee. What would I do, leave the place closed during a busy holiday day & 4 out of state under 18 cricket teams in limbo (no, I don't expect anyone to understand that...quirky is the job at the ancient vino-ry!)????? I think Dipmo taught a good lesson...don't get so jacked up that you don't expect the thin envelope!
If I make it...I'm in the night before. I'm not accepted yet, but I've already told my cousin in Davis that I'll be sofa surfing the night before, and he'll probably see me on several wednesdays for 27 weeks following! ALL tentative; not counting chickens before they hatch!

Congrats to all of you. As happy as you are to be going, you now know that you have no excuse for ariving at academy not physically prepared. As you know, of the class before you, only 10% of cadets were able to keep up with the PT staff on thier first session. Do not think that if you can do the minimum recomended (3 sets of 25 whatever) that you are prepared enough. You will not be. Take it to the next level. Work up to a couple hundred pushups, 75 nose-in-the-ring pushups, 100-200 situps, 30 bend and thrusts( still in sets, but mixed up back to back with no rest break in between, for a solid 25 minutes), then go out and do a 2-3 mile run (at a 7 min pace). If you can do this, then your time there will start out much easier.
Best luck to all of you (and those who are still waiting for their letters). Stay motivated.

Are the sit ups, push ups etc, broken into sets, or is that just the bend and thrusts.
I'm getting better, but still have a long way to go. Today I did 130, push ups, 130 sit ups, 130 dips, and 130 leg lifts (in sets total about 17 minutes) then went and ran 4 miles at a 8.5 minute per mile pace (I had a nasty side stitch for the first two miles as I chugged a quarter bottle of water after the workout and right before the run).
Only nine weeks to go, time to step it up guys and gals?

Everthing is in sets, but may not be in the order you want. Do 30 pushup, then 20 mountain climbers, 20 nose in the rings, another 20 pushups, 40 leg lifts, 30 situps, then do it all over again, without stopping to rest. Ditmo, sounds like you are well on your way. just keep it up.
The list grows longer and longer - Congrats to all of you! Prepare yourself now for the fact that it's difficult both physically AND mentally - and it's that way for a purpose. For most of you, you're going to work harder than you've ever worked in your life, and endure more discipline than you have ever imagined. With that said, many before you have made it through (over 18,000 at last count), so there's no reason that any of you should quit. You have plenty of time to prepare yourselves - toughen up and be ready!

that dvd is so neat. when we watched it at the party, i finally felt like i had some insight as to what my best friend had been through while we were apart. it gave me such a sense of pride in and for my husband that it brought tears to my eyes. i remember looking at another wife at the table, who also had tears in her eyes, and thinking i wasn't alone... until she said the video made her feel scared. i was so perplexed by that!

nope, just an individual class thing. find someone in your class who has a relative who's handy with the software and recruit 'em! the state does give you a vhs of the graduation, though, along with a 4"x6" of you shaking the comish's hand. the letter they enclose is comical. "as a token of our appreciation, please accept this picture..." the letter was wadded up in the envelope with the vhs. oh, well!
i'm glad we got the pic, though, as most of my graduation pics didn't turn out and one roll of film was lost. my husband's picture was promptly framed and sits next to his dad's flag that was presented by the chp at the funeral and the last chp picture taken of dad, downtown san diego at christmas. :*)

Yeah, my friend is going through the background now and he had orientation last friday, and that's what CHP told them. So I am not sure if those 180 are people who finished background or finish the whole process. But what CHP told my friend is a fact.
Also I heard that if everything is done by Aug 18th, you will go to sept 18 class... but not sure about that either.

This is my first post & I am happy to come accross this forum because it has been very insightful onto somethings to expect when attending the academy. I am also, as many of you are, in the process of attempting to become a cadet for the CHP. I have undergone many of the examinations & have made it all the way to the medical exam. As long as everything goes well there then off to the Psych evaluation. I just wanted to introduce myself & say good luck to everyone else undergoing the hiring process & to those who have already been accepted. I hope to see you all there in the upcoming academy!!!
Welcome aboard, CadetCandidate. There is a lot of useful information here - be sure to learn about the "Search" function, as you can turn up a lot of good questions that have already been answered in great detail. Good luck to you.

Well I was hoping for a September invitation but I am on hold due to a medical issue that the SPB doctor found in my X-Rays. I have to get additional X-Rays done. This could possibly DQ me for good.
So Just hoping and praying for the best. I'll let you guys know what happens.
Congrats to the rest of you who have made it into the September class.

Sorry to hear about the hold up.
If you don't mind my asking, what did they find that is of concern? I sprained my wrist a few weeks ago and im trying to keep it well as much as possible. Just curious how minor or major of health issues they're looking for.

Hopefully it's not bad enough for a DQ-for-good. Better to find out about health problems sooner than later! Best of luck, KLo

I wouldn't worry about a sprained wrist. I had a pulled groin muscle when I went in for my medical and passed it. =P Made the running in place part a little difficult though !

I also sprained my wrist recently. I went to the doctor after about two days just because I wanted any advice that he could give me on making it better, every second with it hurting would make the academy that much harder. I have laid off on it and currently it feels fine though I am going to give it some more time just to make sure it is a 100% before I start going 100% again.
Good luck with the X-Rays!!!

It has been suggested that we keep our meeting spot off of the boards as staff from the academy might be trying to check to check us out there. The same has also been said about not showing up at Starbuck's the next morning(just was suggested by a person). Let me know what you guys think. I have an idea on how to set everything up if need be.

I think it's a little late for that. Not even there yet and already trying to outsmart the staff. Do you really think the Academy staff has nothing better to do than spy on you on the morning you show up? What do you plan on doing there? Make up secret signals so nobody knows what you're saying to each other? How about this: Show up prepared with a bit more maturity. Nothing wrong with meeting at Starbucks or anywhere else,,, just act like adults.
Tick, tock, tick, tock,,,,,,, Sept 18 is almost here.

Snowdog, you are an officer and I completely respect your opinion, but the maturity line was unfounded. The advice of not showing up at Starbuck's and other advice was given by recent cadet's and officers.

Wasn't said to offend anyone, just to help you all get your mind in the right place. If that little comment offended you, September 18 is going to be the begining of a very long 27 weeks for you. Read the post again in about 10 years, after you have some time under your belt, and I think you'll have a different perspective of what the post turned in to. FYI, the officers hanging out at Starbucks on Monday mornings are primarily guys/gals who are headed to the Academy for some type of training, and we delay our arrival at the Academy as long as we can because there is no joy in going back. Also, we need to fill up on the caffeine because we know it's gonna be a very long day.
Good Luck to all of you! Don't let the attrition repeat itself in the same numbers as the last group.

This board has been somewhat of a humbling experience for me as of late (I?ve had a few brain toots and to the group I apologize, no excuses, it just won?t happen again).
Snowdog, thank you for the perspective, your point is well taken and applied. I never looked at it as trying to outsmart the staff, but I sure can see how it would be taken that way. I simply thought we were doing the right thing based on some posts from officers on this board.
Again, sorry for my recent spat of arrogance and attitude and thank you to those that have pointed it out so that I could realize it and correct it.

The bigest thing any of you can do is make the mental preparation not to quit. You all can meet at Starbucks, jack in the box, or wherever- it wont matter 10 minutes after report time. You will have forgotten you all even met up. Don't be the person who gets up and walks out after only being at the academy for 3 hours (or 3 days or 3 weeks). Work out till you think you are going to puke, then shake it off and go for a run. Just know in your heart that you all have spent at least 6 months preparing for this and nothing will make you think twice about leaving it. Stay motivated and don't give up.

Congrats Pupdog. Last I spoke with you, both of us were hung up in Backgrounds. Glad to hear everything came through for you, and I look forward to meeting you in Sept. I can relate with you about some family members being not so encouraging at this point. I know they all mean well, and they are just worried about my safety, but I continue to tell them that I will be getting the best training in the country. But it does seem that whenever an officer dies, people start to second guess this line of work. I am fully aware that I may lose my life in this profession, but life isnt guarenteed no matter what your profession. You never know when your life may end, and I am not gonna go against my dreams of being a CHP officer because of the risk I may die. Sorry for the small rant. Anyways congrats and see ya on the 18th.

I just want to say to all attending the academy in September, Good Luck and I hope you all do very well. I was reading a book that showed EVERY YEAR over 580,000 people apply to the CHP, and only around 508 and people get accepted and graduate the academy. What you guys are getting is a real honor, and I hope everything you have been through thus far will pay off big time. Good Luck again guys and gals.

Hey everybody,
I received my invite letter this morning for the 09/18 class. I?m so excited. But does every invitation start off with the disclaimer, ?Please be aware that a major portion of your background investigation is not completed, you may be subject to termination from the Academy should any adverse information be received.?
That statement makes me a bit hesitant to celebrate.

i just checked my husband's letter and you can rest easy (unless there's another reason not to!), it's standard. my husband's background was squeaky clean and it was in his letter, so i can only assume it's in everyone's.

Sleep in??? You mean you aern't adjusting by getting up at 4am yet?
So, how often does it happen that someone fails backgrounds after they atart the academy? A few years agot I read a book called The making of a cop about NYPD's academy. The academy staff constantly hung that over the applicants, and in one part pulled a few out of class to gove the impression that they were DQ'd because of the ongoing backgrounds, but it was all just a 'stress' scenario in the end! How...twisted!
That date is getting near SO FAST, and I've really done it now...I always knew I was destined to suffer during PT, and to seal my fate, last week I aquired a pinched nerve in the neck. My chiropractor/sports med guy did massive work on it (ems machine is my new happy place!!!) because of last thrusday's plans to get my rear up Half Dome (I'm TERRIFIED of heights, and I just felt such unreasonable fears should be dealt with BEFORE the academy). Luckily I was too scared to realize how much pain I was in, but I'm paying for it DEARLY now.

I think I may get more sleep in the academy than I do now. I drive a tow truck on call 24hrs a day and we work out of 3 CHP areas and the Sheriffs Office. So there is many a night that I only get an hour or two of sleep before going to work at 8am and starting all over again. I live at the coffee maker on those days
I hope your neck will not be an issue for the academy, that would just be one more thing on your plate to worry about
