That's what he gets for being an idiot and trying to drive around a fully engulfed semi in soft sand! :biggrin:shock:ubt: He's lucky he wasn't killed in the process. All the other vehicles behind it (seen in the first photo) obviously had better sense.

A Firefighter on another site posted this after looking at the photo......"Teaching people about fire, one idiot at a time"

Can the driver of the U-Haul be cited for that Joey Chitwood move?

Brought to mind how grateful I always was to see fire fighters at the scene of any injury or fatal wreck, nothwithstanding the ones that had fires. Turnouts and fire pants hold up so much better at accidents scenes than silver tan gabardine.................

Don't the CHP cars carry fire extinguishers????

Seriously, I would ask the CHP to BLOCK ALL LANES OF THE FREEWAY, then bring two engines, foam the hell out of it, and return the remaining mess to the CHP and CALTRANS... All the while, I'd be sitting in my command truck, windows up, air conditioning on full blast, while the fire is put out.

Thank you Ofc. Grady for the thought...

By the way, I just got home from the "Perkins" Fire in Cuyama. Serving the community by sharing good stories about the fire with the news media (PIO)...Really hot, dirty, stinky, and just generally uck!!!!

LOL...yeah, but I think we might have been a just a wee bit over-matched with that one - it was about 7600 gallons of JP-8, along with a hundred or so gallons of diesel from his fuel system. It might have taken two or three of our extinguishers to knock that down! :D

Seriously, I would ask the CHP to BLOCK ALL LANES OF THE FREEWAY...
Oh, they were - in BOTH directions.....for several hours. They didn't foam it, though - they chose the easiest method of mitigation for something like that - let it burn itself out, then removed the contaminated sand from the shoulder and rehabbed the burnt freeway lanes.

mac, did the red cross show up with water and finger food? If they did not, area should have picked up the tab for lunch cause whoever went probably did not eat that day.
bc, you are appointed safety and resource officer, I got a freeway find fireman's axe and chicago door opener, most useful is a D handle shovel.

Good call on letting it burn out....Sometimes that is the best thing. Since the tone of the posts sounded like a challenge, I took the aggressive attack direction. The drawback to letting it burn is the hours or days of clean up. Someone mentioned in another post how firefighters want to close the freeway and close too many lanes sometimes, soooooo, I still think if I had sufficient resources, I would attack it, put it out, and get you all back to the donuts  sooner...

Grady:

Good call on the Red Cross. In all seriousness, they are an outstanding organization and will bring, coffee, cold drinks, DONUTS , and I have even had them serve Mcdonalds Breakfast at a couple of long-term calls. Sure is nice to have people like that around for those all-nighters...

I don't do Safety Officer or Resource Officer. I only do Incident Commander or Public Information Officer...

No idea - I wasn't there, just read the comm-net on it.

Yeah, but "sometimes" is the operational word in that sentence - I wouldn't argue with you one bit about closing the lanes at a scene like that mess!

It is good to see someone benefitting from that dang NIMS system...

Comeon my Chippie brothers/sisters are you really not used to going a whole shift without a food/bathroom/coffee break?!?!?

I didn't get any donuts or coffee at all the whole last week while wearing blue, too much work to do...
