View Full Version : Application Accepted
Hi everyone. I've been sort of a lurker on the forum here for about a month. Great site, very informative.
Well, I hope that yesterday was - as the cliche goes - "The first day of the rest of my life". I got my application acceptance in the mail and to my surprise, the written test was waived. I took the written and PAT back in 98, passed, but decided to make another career move shortly thereafter. I didn't realize they would still accept those results being so old. Anyway, I'm jazzed to have finally made what I'm sure is the right decision. Now to get back in shape!
By the way, it looks strange to me having an official letter from the state come with the words "Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor" on top ;)

Oh thats cool...I hope everything works out for you...please do a MOCK ORAL BOARD...please. I did one and it saved me bundles and bundles of Blank deer in the head light looks. Wish you luck.
Thanks for the heads up. "MOCK ORAL BOARD"??? Can you go into a bit more detail?

Sure I can...well if you sent in your application and got a test waiver the the next step will be the Physical Abilities Test or the PAT and the Psych Testing. Both test start at 8 am and they take alot of time..and if you wear contacts I suggest you check your perscription, or wear glasses, because your vision is tested at the PAT also. Also, about the psych...it will take you all day...so eat a good breakfast, and come in business attire.
After you successfully complete both days you are scheduled for a oral interview, the oral interview is a two person panel.
Start by learning about the department, its not really alot to do and trust me its worth it.
I know what I typed is alot but I hope it helps, and I didnt want to give you some half done answer, heres the number to the CHP recruiting office in West Sacramento...916.375.2550-I have the number memorized. Good Luck --Oh yeah..keep and read everything they give you...believe it or not there is information in there that will help you learn what you will be going through. Go on ride-a-long..tour the academy..the next one is July 8th, bug the recruiters..trust me these are investments into your future with this department.

Thanks, really good info. You can actually go in to an office and do a mock interview?
Also, what is the policy on ride alongs? Does it differ from office to office? From what I've read on here and heard elsewhere, most want you to have at least passed the written, so I guess I should be good to go.

It doesnt hurt to go to an office during business hours and request a ride-a-long...I did it like a year ago, and I hadnt even taken the exam yet. If you have trouble getting scheduled for on through the office, go through the division office. I'm assuming youre down in the Central Division, Im in Golden Gate.
If you go into the division office I know the Background Investigators will help you out with a mock oral if you request it. Depending on the time and things like that, as far as a ride a long give it a shot its worth it. Some people dont really know what the CHP does. Some people dont know the academy is Paramilitary, some people simply dont care. But if you do care, I believe you will find the time to do some of these things.
call the 916 number and let the recruiters now whats up and they can direct you futher. Good Luck... Im going swimming.
