Just thought I'd share this photo from Nov. 1963. The man in the photo is the Grandfather of a friend of mine watching the Kennedy funeral. He said his Grandfather turned to him said "you will always remember this day"

My daughter was born just five days before that tragic event. Everyone was glued to their TV sets to watch the goings on from the time of the incident until the termination of Oswald's life and the services for President Kennedy.

How I remember that day. At first we heard that he was shot, then shortly after, that he had died. Stunned office employees were wandering around not knowing what to say to one another; most of us were left speechless. One oddball engineer who had a cubby along the wall strolled out and proclaimed, "Good. That's one way to get rid of him!" I will remember that for the rest of my life. Even though I worked for a defense subcontractor, the pres. was a Republican and made the decision that our company would not have off the proclaimed national day of mourning the day of the funeral. Just too costly for the company at that time to pay all those people for the day off (nearly a thousand, I believe). I could only slip home to see a snipet while hubby was watching, and then whatever was shown in the evening. We were just about to go out the door to church when Oswald was killed on Sunday, and I believe Monday was the day of mourning. Funny how that turned out. I worked full time later on for that company president who started another company and corporation and he turned out to be a good friend. Still is.

And as for John Kennedy, I saw him once in the Capitol Bldg. in Nebraska when he came to register for the primary election. I worked there then and my boss, who was a Kennedy family friend, let me and another secretary go into the press conference in the gov's office. We had to stand at the back of the crowded room and later on, argued about which one of us he looked at the most! He was so tall and stunning in real life, with that dazzling smile and thick shock of hair.

Thank you for posting that photo. November 22 always brings it all back.

I was six years old at the time. About all can remember are my parents and a few neighbors sitting in our living room watching it on TV and nobody said a word.
