Nebraska patrol boosts firepower with new rifles

The Nebraska State Patrol has boosted its firepower with the purchase of semiautomatic rifles for its troopers.
After testing and evaluation, the patrol selected tactical rifles from the M&P division of famed gunmaker Smith&Wesson.
The company says it sold 475 rifles to the patrol, which has already put them into service. The Nevada Department of Public Safety recently completed a purchase of 500 similar M&P15 rifles.
The Nebraska models are 5.56 mm, the same diameter as the U.S. military's M4 and M16 assault rifles and carbines.
