I dont know...is it usually a bad thing when you are in the Oral Interview for one hour and eight minutes? Honestly, it was a hot seat to sit in...I had to discuss ALL OF MY HISTORY. I was told that I seemed worse on paper until they got to talk to me, which made me feel better. I was just open minded EXTREMELY HONEST, and just trying to recollect all of my life basically. I was told that alot of people make mistakes, and havent thought them through, and cant explain themselves when it comes time for the QAP. They told me that the decision they were trying to ascertain would be hard to come up with. How does that sound if anyone can help me out...?

Sounds like you did good to me. A little on the long time, but I honestly don't know what is considered "average." The most important thing that it sounds like you did, and all should do, is be honest! Heck be over honest, I think that it helps a little.

I had my QAP today and it lasted about 25 minutes. I was concerned mine wasn't long enough; however, I feel as though everything that was discussed was covered in detail. Since yours lasted longer, there was obviously more info to cover, but the good thing is you were given chance to explain / come clean and it sounds as if you put all the cards on the table. Feel good knowing whatever the outcome, you were able to give your version of the story. Best of luck.

WannaBeaChippie/Stump1860,
I was in the interview for about 55 minutes. One applicant was back in about 20 minutes while a couple of us were still waiting for our turn. I am not sure about the average time. All I know is that QAP has been the most intense job interview of my life so far.
WannaBeaChippie: I think I have seen you at the Oakland office last year at the seminar. I went on a ride along out of Oakland office. I have a co-worker who is from Richmond and tells stories about Richmond. I always thought he was exaggerating his stories but I was wrong. I got to see the streets of Richmond during my ride along with CHP and taking calls in those streets is no joke.
Thanks

Mine was only about 35 minutes. Sadly it wasn't my best performance by far... Hopefully now that I know the flow and a good idea what they are looking for my interview in the next cycle will be much better.
Best of luck to all the rest of you.

Did mine too. Didn't seem too hard. In fact a local PD I interviewed at was harder. This interview seemed less tense then I thought it would be.

If I pass the written mine will be in less than a month. Interviews are so tricky my last two have been really good but the worst was when I walked into a place to turn in some papers for the job. It was in a huge office and the idea was to just drop them off. Well somehow the guy doing the hiring heard I was in the office and wanted an interview right then and there. That was a good thing, the bad thing was I had just got back from running and I was wearing shorts, running shoes and a hoodie. My hair was a mess and I probably didn't smell all to great from my sweating.
In the end though I still got the job...so maybe I wasn't too bad...

If I remember correctly, my QAP was about 30 minutes long. They didn't go into any of my history. They asked their standard list of questions, plus a couple others, and then I was out of there.

my husband said his was only about 15 minutes... but he's a goody-goody... doesn't drink, has never tried any drugs (no, not even pot, which his bi asked everyone about only a bazillion times!), no reprimands from work, no tickets, et cetera. he did say, though, that they asked him a lot about previous residences, what he did in the navy, and so on.

What boats did your husband serve? and what was his rate?

he never served ON any boats, just "kept them fit to fight" at the pearl harbor naval shipyard, shop 56 nuclear power. he was only one one ship and for 4.5 years; cvn75, the harry s truman, which was the largest ship at the time. he was a nuclear machinist mate, so he did the near two years of nuke schools in orlando and charleston, his time on the truman in norfolk, then three years at phnsy.

In the end though I still got the job...so maybe I wasn't too bad...All I can suggest is do a mock oral board with the recruiters near you. Trust me...this is an interview where you'd better know how to explain yourself...I would suggest doing a mock oral board so you see what its like...for some people it will be a breeze and for others it will be test of reliability, and how well you respond to stress.

Thread hijack alert - Makakona - got it - typically nukes and Pearl mean boats (subs). I was a nuke MM as well (ELT and Diver) sub duty only. 9 years. Back then prototype wasn't in Charleston.

yeah, he was a subvol, but didn't get what he wanted. his wish list was "anything but a carrier on the east coast." voila! cvn out of orf. turned out well enough, especially shore at pearl. he worked in a civilian shop, loved his job, and we just had an absolute blast there. it was VERY hard to leave and i still miss it enough to tear up a bit thinking of it. we only left pearl (we lived on ford island) seven months ago, so hopefully i'll get over it at some point!
i thought there was always prorotype at charleston... i know they had it in idaho and still have it in balston spa, but i thought charleston was always around. when did you go through, motor, and where? it's a small world when you're a nuke. ;)
i remember tom mentioning he was a nuke, too. too bad y'all are bubbleheads... we need some surface guys here. ;)

Super Official Thread Hi-Jack alarm!
Charleston was new. Probably 10 years old now. I went in in 1984. Orlando then Ballston Spa. Idaho Falls and Windsor (Conneticutt)(sp) were still on-line. I hear Ford Island has a bridge to it now. Used to have to take a barge across when I was there - Dive school at Ford Island. I stayed at the high rise on subbase before I got married, then moved out to Ewa Beach. I did 4 years at Pearl but, sadly, about three and a half of them underway....fast attacks were always underway. No skimmers aka targets
