Ok, so it looks like I'm flying in to get my Written on July 22nd.

I am a bald man(completely waxed on the head), so I hope they can take a hair from somewhere else for my drug test. Unless they don't do that at the initial written? I do have hair in other places, or I might be able to grow something in for them in August when I go back, if I pass my testing for the QAP. When do they want the hair?

What is the Oral Board like? Do they doc you points for things you did in your past? Or do they dock you points for how well YOU respond to those things you did in the past. I'm ready to step up to the plate, and admit my faults, and not shift blame. But if they are docking me for stupid things I did, even though I take full responsibility, maybe I should wait a few more years?

Or do the stupid things you did, DQ you from the background phase, rather than the QAP.

I'm a speech major, with a bachelors, so I can sit and field thier questions with the upmost confidence, and honesty. But my background might not be to CHP standards. I have great credit, and served 4 years as an Army Ranger, and was live for operations in the field in Afgan(honorable discharge). Got the 4 year degree as aforementioned. But I do have a theft in my background, I stole a $50 dollar bill when I was 17 from my friends moms house that was sitting in the kitchen. I paid her back, but the Police were involved, and I was charged, and plead no contest to a lower petty theft charge that is a misd in the state of Michigan(where it happened).

Thanks CHP forum members!

Waxed bald, you're not my brother are you? You're in luck, drug testing is done by urine and it is not done until the medical exam. Besides, for the hair exam they can use "other hair" if need be.

I'll let DW or one the other current or former background investigators field the theft question as they are the experts when it comes to that. Just remember the term "recency and frequency".

In terms of speed of process? I know some Divisions Background investigations can take longer than others. I'm just trying to finish the process as quickly as possible, so if I earn myself a DQ, I can fix the problems and quickly reapply.

Thanks

I should have worded that different, I realize that applying to any division is applying to the CHP as a whole. However, I'm just trying to figure out who's process is the quickest. I was recommended to take my test in Sacramento by the recruiting officer who called me, just because that way while I'm there I can see the academy.

Either way, where's a good place to start, where I can expect my BI to be done in a timely mannor. Thanks everyone.

Where you test does not make a difference for BI speed. Your case will be sent back to your home division for the BI. I'm from central and tested in Sac. My case was held up just a smidge by having my BI transferred back to central division. Have all of your ducks in a row now so that a DQ will not be an issue.

I will agree that testing in Sac is cool though. The PAT and written psych are in the same place and the QAP is done a couple of blocks away. There is an Extended Stay America that has cheaper rates on the weekend for the testing and its right next to the academy. Doing the testing at the academy is pretty motivating to boot.

Good luck,

Thanks Dipmo, I guess the advice I received from my recruiting officer was correct. Looking forward to seeing the facilities and getting a decent rate on a place to sleep.

I was in the same boat as Dipmo. I live in So Cal, but I have lived most of my life in Sacramento. So my BI took longer because an officer in Sac had to do part of the BI, and my BI did all of my more recent stuff. All in all, the sped of your investigation depends more on the amount of places you have lived, jobs you've had etc. If you have lived in one palce your entire life, and only have had a couple of jobs, your BI will go faster regardless of where you test.

Sacramento is a good palce to test because you can fly into the airport and all your testing is within miles of the airport. The background process is what will take some time for you. The background unit from the Division you've tested in, will have to send requests to those out of state LE agencies in the area's you've lived and worked and ask them for assistance in completing your background. Sometimes this process can take "months" to complete, but it is necessary for a complete background. The gets even harder if you've been all over the world or in the military and stationed in numerous locations. So, while the written, PAT and QAP might go quick, be patient when it comes to your background. One thing I would recommmend is once you've passed the PAT and QAP, when they give you the Personal History Statement and the two release forms, fill them out and get them sent in ASAP (but, fill them out thoroughly!)

Dang, I kept on forgetting about the drug test. I thought about it the other day and thought that it was odd that they didn't do one, but I completely forgot about the urine at the medical. As you can tell it wasn't something that I was worried about nor have ever needed to worry about.
