I have heard that you need to wait 6 months to reapply, but from what date is the 6 months? Is it 6 months from the day you are told verbally that you are not being recommended to move on, or do you wait for something official to come in the mail. I had my Final Interview two months ago and was told by my BI that I would not be recommended to move on, but he told me that if I still wanted the job I should reapply. He was very encouraging, I had just shot myself in the foot on something. I really want to try again and I would like to know how soon I can do this.

You can reapply immediatelly. Depending on the DQ issue, some things (and no need to disclose it here) may need some time to pass before you will be seriously reconsidered.

As soon as your application is cleared in the computer, you should be able to submit a new application. I'd wait until you get the official written notification and then submit a new application.

dw, I was told that the panel DQs people on the spot after some questioning. The person answered truthfully and I was really surprised the applicant was DQ for drug usage over ten years ago. Is that normal?

The other responders are correct. You can re-apply any time you want, but... Remember, whatever the reason(s) was/were for your DQ might bring the same results as your last background. You will need to disclose your disqualification in your next QAP interview. There's a chance that if you re-apply to soon, you may not get a good QAP score, which could result in not continuing in the application process during that testing cycle. If you do get a decent QAP score, the BI might take a look at the reason for your last DQ and not feel you've taken enough time to recitfy whatever the problem was that caused your original DQ. If your BI told you to wait, then wait. I understand your anxious and excited about a career in LE, but don't shoot yourself in the foot by ignoring your BI's warnings and advise. You should contact your BI AFTER the time period he or she recommended and discuss it with them. They are the only one intimately familiar with the circumstances of your DQ. They will be able to give you better advise than any of us on this forum.
