I am currently in the application process and I have already received my conditional commitment for hire. I turned in my PHS on 06/08/2006 and I am now waiting for my BI to contact me. I received a 90 on my QAP. I read on an earlier post that a QAP score of 90 will not get you in these days?? Is that correct? If I received my commitment for hire does that mean that my 90 was good enough?
Also, will it hurt me if I apply for another LE agency while I am in my application process with the CHP??
Thanks in advance for any information.

Good question  I received a 90 on my QAP as well and I have heard mixed responses? I am still waiting to get my commitment for hire? I haven't heard anything since I received my QAP score in the mail?

If you got a commitment to hire it is just that, a commitment to hire you based on your passing the BI, medical and oral psych. Last I heard 85?s and up were getting the commitment, but that changes every testing cycle I believe.
I'm not sure if applying to a different agency while in process will hurt you, but I highly doubt it.
Good luck to you,

Thanks for the info Dipmo.... I quess it's just a waiting game now. Do you know if they work with the high QAP scores first when working on the Backrounds?

I'm not sure, but the waiting time seems to be at the investigator's discretion. I got a 95 and waited for four months for the BI to start. The reason for the wait? Travel distance and road condition issues for my BI (snow and a lot of it this year).
Others on this board waiting a VERY long time for their BI (Pupdog) and others waited very little time (TheforceCHP, I'm still jealous about that by the way). Bottom line is that there is no way to properly figure an average, median, or approximated wait time for BI; it all comes down to each individual applicant,

Thank again Dipmo for the good information. I will just continue to wait. I will let you know when I get the call

Yes, your 90 (a strong score) was "good enough." The conditional commitment to hire is what moves you to backgrounds.
Applying with another agency will not hurt you, though you may be asked about it.
Generally higher scores are not given preference. As Dipmo said, it's pretty much random. You have a pool and start picking -- some will be at the beginning and some at the end.

Sorry , the thing that got me through was having a very short history and LUCK. When it comes down to it I was in the right place at the right time. My BI needed a quick background to do because she was getting tired of a super long one that she had at the time and my application was ready. Also when she called sadly I didn't answer because I was at work though I called her back that same day. Try to make sure that you answer your phone or return their phone call as soon as possible. I can imagine that if I hadn't contacted her so quickly and also been so open on my meeting times that it wouldn't have gone so quickly. These are just some little suggestions that might help out a little. Good luck to all!

Thanks for the info. When you get to the Med Eval do they ask for Medical records or do they just do a physical and med test??

Depending on what your medical history is, they might require certain medical records. Broken bones? Probably not. At least it wasn't required from me. I did have to provide certain medical records due to having LASIK surgery.

I received a 95 on my QAP and after my conditional commitment for hire it took almost 4 months before my BI called me. Just give it time. If you got the conditional commitment then you're gravy. Start getting that list of paperwork they wanted ready now though so you don't have to rush at the last minute.
