View Full Version : Disqualified Today!
Bad news for me today!
I was disqualified because if failed to mention two verbal reprimands that i received at my current place of employment back in 2004. I mentioned all the other reprimands, but for some reason i forgot to mention the other two. I am more upset at my self because i should have taken the time to look at my work record, but didn't because i assumed i remembered everthing (BIG MISTAKE)! The funny thing is that none of the reprimands that i mentioned were even on my record, but the ones i did not remember about were. I am thankful that i got this far in the process and can't wait to re-apply.
What happens now? How long would i have to wait to apply again?
I guess it just was not the time for me! Things happen for a reason.
Thanks for any response!

what kind of job did you have for them to keep records of this stuff?

CHP1, re-apply ASAP while everything is still fresh. Just disclose the new information at your initial interview, why you didn't mention it, and why you're totally sure you won't forget anything this time around. Maybe you could get your work records next time 'round as a way to ensure that you aren't forgetting anything. I'm sorry you got DQ'ed; dont' be too discouraged, though, you can still make it. I was DQ'ed my first time around and made it on the second try.

CHP1, what division are you applying in?
Officer Grady,
I work for sears warehouse. I am responsible for their entire work load. I pretty much sit in-front of a computer all night long. I can work 3hrs a day or 10hrs a day. I can come in anytime i want as long as my work gets done. I like my job, but it has gotten too routine.
The reprimands that i forgot to mention were given to me for being late to work.
23112,
Thank you officer! I appreciate your support!

CHP1-
If the reprimands weren't on your record, how did they affect you? Was it just something your manager emembered, and told your BI? Just curious.

CHP1
Keep all your records from everything you just went through. I have a folder of nothing but CHP stuff and can't wait to pull it out again next year when I reapply.
Keep your head up and don't be afraid to admit your fault. Best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear this, I think that you can re-apply for the next testing dates
I mentioned reprimands that i had received during the QAP. I was being honest by mentioning reprimands that had been taken out of my work file and i accidentally over-looked the reprimands that were still in my file dating back to 2004. The reprimands that i received were for showing up 2-3 minutes late to work. We have a six minute grace period starting from our start time that we can use up to six times a month without being written up. The reprimands that i received were verbal warnings because i went over six times in one month. My file made me look bad because it was something that my BI did not seem to understand. Also, I do not have a start time where i work, I can pretty much go into work any time after 4pm. Not having a set start time also made me look like i was showing up to work late a lot. I am a little bit bummed out because this is something that i really wanted, but what can i say, s***t happens. These are mistakes that i need to learn from and correct. My background investigator treated me in a fair manner and i understand that she was just doing her job. I do not blame her in any way i blame my self for making these mistakes. All of my managers said good things about me, it was my file who betrayed me. If any of you are still waiting to meet your background investgator, now is the time to go through your work file and write down every reprimand you have ever received. Have a nice day!
I will redhead and good luck to you also!

*shakes head*
This is, so far, the only part of the application process that I disagree with.
Flame on me all you want but I already know how hard it is to remember any verbal or written reprimand.
In my QAP I said I got a verbal for punctuality and a written for something political. In reality it was reversed and according to most, it would have probably DQ'd me. Thankfully I only got an 80 on my QAP and didn't go to BI.
It would be a bitter shank in my heart knowing all this effort was forfeit because of something so petty.
IMHO, if you brought everything to light that you could possibly remember and were obviously not trying to falsify your history, it should be disregarded.
Flame on.

color me confused... how can you be late for a nonexistent start time?
how glad i am that i married someone who kept his nose clean! while we had to do a TON of legwork to get all of his supervisors, residences, and roommates accounted for (military life makes all of that fairly tough), that was the extent of the hard stuff. i imagine if he were the type to receive write-ups, we would have invested a lot of time into THAT legwork.
decon,
I was given the reprimands back in 2004 before i got the ok from managment to come in at any time. Have a nice day!
Ouch reminds me of my DQ in February I was Dqed for failing to disclose that I left a job in lieu of being fired. But in fact during my final interview I tried to explain that it was a telemarketing job which I did not like or felt I could achieve the quotas. I even told the BI that I was eligable for rehire. I probably will reapply in the next cycle although currently I am in the LAXPD hiring process and it looks like I will be in their academy by September at the latest January. Since I went through the expedited hiring process. So if they pick me up then I wont reaplly because it took much to long for me to get to the BI, over a year after my PAT. :shock:ops:

Like the saying goes.."There are two sides to every story." I am not going to accuse you of not sharing everything with the forum, but then again, you started this. Every BI on this Department has the leeway and latitude to make a recommendation or non-recommendation for continuation in the application process. If a persons background is really good but that person has a couple of reprimands from several years back they forgot to mention (especially verbal reprimands that were just forgotten about because they weren't of a serious nature) the BI can document those reprimands in the background report, and make an entry that those reprimands were discussed and addressed to the satisfaction of the BI. Which means that even though they were not mentioned by the applicant, the BI felt they were not serious enough to keep a good qualified applicant out of the Academy. Yes, it is important to be as meticulos as possible on your PHS. All BI's understand that sometimes people do forget incident's that have happened in their past. It's the obvious ones or intentional omissions that'll get you DQ'd.

SPB RULE 172. FOLLOW THIS RULE AND YOU SHOULD SUCCEED. TAKE YOUR TIME TO RESEARCH YOUR BACKGROUND AND BE READY FOR THE QAP AND BI STAGE. I GOT DQ?D FOR THIS. I THOUGHT I WAS PREPARED AND I NOW THANK MY BI FOR SHOWING ME THAT I STILL HAD MORE TO WORK ON. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP, LOOK STRAIGHT AND REMEMBER ? HONESTY, INTEGRITY, ACCURACY, AND THOROUGHNESS?. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for the advice STRIDER1. I just think of it as another wall to climb.
