View Full Version : Transfer Freeze

Does anybody have any information on when the hiring freeze will be lifted, specifically the transfers? Originally we were told it would be when the budget is signed, well we all know that didn't happen!
I called and spoke with someone this morning in Human Resources to find out some more information. The only response I got was the expected "I just don't know when it will be lifted....."
They did however inform me of something that I wasn't aware of. They said the freeze is not a statewide issue, and it is an issue with our department? I thought this was something that was affecting all agencies, not just CHP?
I'm becoming frustrated to say the least because my husband has already relocated (non CHP) to another area 7 hours away for work. We're paying rent on two places, plus the cost of travel every weekend. I was hoping to be right behind him but I am still waiting for transfers to be allowed. Now we are approaching the time where I will be getting rid of my rental house, relocating down there, and then I will make the 7 hour drive and stay in a hotel on my days on....yikes!
So, my question is what are they waiting for? Have any of you experienced this in recent years and what was the deal?
I know there are people in much worse situations than I am, that have a dire need to transfer to another area - I guess all I have to say is....IT'S NOT FAIR! WAAAA! haha!

I would actually bring this up in CHP only forum.

Even though we couldn't do our job without dispatchers...
Even though they are the vital link between the officers and those needing help...
Even though the civilian employees are the backbone of our orginization...
...I don't think PSDGirl can bring that up in the Chippies Only forum.

Yes, Broadcaster is correct - Dispatchers do not have access to the 'Chippies only' section of the forum.
I heard a rumor that nobody knows when the freeze will be lifted. Anybody else hear the same thing?

Rumor confirmed. Nobody knows when the freeze will be lifted. Not even Brown himself.

Wait for our notes from the CAHP meeting.

CAHP as awesome as they are doesn't know when it will be lifted either. You actually can transfer now, it just takes high level approval. I know that the AT in a nearby area just transferred. You actually CAN hire too, it just needs approval from DGS and they must be from a SROA list.
There are motions of new hiring too, they're in the middle of establishing a list for my position, which has been dead for over 4 years now. I know I got hired off the CVIS list.

^ This is true for non-uniform employees.
Uniformed transfers are a whole different story.

Surprised we haven't got anyone at Ventura. Coastal division is clearly the best division, and there is no better place on earth than out here!
CAHP said no hiring until 2011. Being that CHP pensions are lower than everywhere else when they finally start hiring they're gonna have a hard time finding people I think...

Is it a good sign the Department is hiring support staff? Such as cooks, groundskeepers, etc.

Theres a few job openings, the department is establishing a list for automotive technician II now. They are also open testing for Motor Carrier Specialist I, I'm seriously thinking about that one, its a grand more a month towards my racing addiction

Kudos to you and your investigation skills. Could be a good sign my background is currently being updated.

It borders on it. This thread was originally about non-uniformed personnel transfers. Don't turn it into a uniformed personnel hiring thread.
