So if my employer sets a strict schedule and I can only get one day off for the QAP next week (golden gate) will I be able to select that day after I pass the PAT? Or will it be randomly selected for me by the powers that be in the CHP? Thanks for your help.

It is random.
edit: I forgot the fact that there is a 3-4 day window where you can choose. I simply took the first day they mentioned.

You do have some control over the day. The monday is usally for those who are from out of state. At mine I was able to pick either the tued. or wend. but maybe you could get the mond. I don't know about that

I don't know about thatAre there any pointers for the Oral Interview...? The reason I ask is because mine was scheduled for next wednesday, and I know there are some good pointers maybe to share. I know that my personal appearance must be very nice, and I know I have to be down with customs and courtesies--is there anything else...?n I'mm striving for perfection! I feel like when I strive to perfection I gave it my best shot.:!:

For all future people I say that the most important thing that you can do is to take the mock QAP. Other then that the most that I can say is use the CHP study information booklet(dont' remember the proper name) that you can get online on the CHP web-site

The Applicant Study Guide is found here... http://www.chp.ca.gov/recruiting/html/studyguide.html.
You should go in knowing more than the guide, know the department and yourself. What I mean is search this board and soak it up. There are officers on here that have taken a tremendous amount of time and effort to ensure that those of us in the hiring process are well prepared and properly motivated. Also, have the important dates of your life in order and at the mental ready, you?re gonna need them. I think the best advice I can offer is to be completely honest, especially when it hurts and it seems as though your answer will count against you.
Or I could just give you the questions before you go in, but that wouldn't be very sporting would it?
Dress nice, be confident and honest and you should be fine.
Good luck,

LOL, no it would have been no fun if I had know the questions before hand, but the mock QAP did help.

I was told that the first day was for people out of state and so on. Is this true, and would it be possible to get the first day if I asked? I have already applied for a day off, thinking that when I received my letter stating all of the test dates, that is when it would be.

you should be able to get this day if needed. there aren't likely to be a large number of out-of-staters at once. as long as your not last in line to set your appt, there may be some slots open for monday. all in all, the number of applicants pretty much evens out over the three days.

Thank you for your answer! I will use some of the training I have been doing "Running" and try to get to the front of the line.

Don't push your way past anyone, that's not going to help anything. It should be noted that getting a "Monday" is not guaranteed for out of State applicants. Most Divisions will make reasonable accommodations, but it may not always be possible.

Thank you also. Yeah, I was taking a stab at humor, and I guess it did not come out right! Thanks for the information.

I have the paperwork from the Written test, that we were told to take home and complete! Is this the paperwork I am supposed to take to the QAP with me. I was a little unsure upon leaving the written. The line was long to talk to the officer, and I had to get to work. Can anyone help?

Probably would have been worth the wait in line... You should contact a recruiter in your Division to clarify, as some changes are being implemented.

To all who may need to know. The paperwork that you received at during the written exam, will be needed when you go to your PAT testing.

And, when you take that paperwork to the PAT, put it in a manila folder. You'll be carrying it in your sweaty hand ALL DAY while you stand in line...you'll find a rock to use as a paperweight to set it down on some sandy track while you do your run... you don't want your paperwork handed in dirty, crumpled, & sweaty hand rumpled! You took the trouble to fill it out as neatly as possible, after all. When I did the PAT, it wasn't taken until they scheduled the QAP at the end of the day.

Good advice by pup.
Also, if you would like, bring a backpack that has water and maybe even some trail mix.
The PAT's I've been to last a good 4 hours and breakfast can only hold you off so long.
Just remember to be as professional as possible. I accidentally left my backpack on top of the counter while I filled out my PAT form and the academy staff that was visiting REEMED me for it (completely my bad). If they happen to be at your PAT, it's a good preview of what to expect. When they say, "sit up straight, look forward and keep your hands in your lap", DO IT. haha. I can't begin to tell you how many idiots were at my PAT that were lookin around the room or trying to eyeball the srg.
Good times, anyway, good luck.

Thanks for this very informative information. I hope all the people going this weekend will see this. It is going to be a shock for some.

As I said before, some changes are being implemented, so be sure you are doing as instructed by your recruitment staff. Things may be different from one Division to the next.
