Yeah it is a nice photo (both look worn out). I had to look real close to realize that's a child next to him. I have such a soft spot for children I'm not sure I'd be able to handle dealing with kids killed in traffic accidents very well.

Are there any holidays observed in general at the academy?
4th of July?, Labor day?
I am not counting on any, just curious....
if this is giving out too much info, please PM me... I am sure I will find out soon enough from my cadet.

It's not a holiday (but I'm proud enough of the right to be happy like it is), but yesterday as I was standing there in the little booth I wondered...how is voting arranged for cadets? Show of hands? Do they bring in a booth? Does everybody vote absentee?

It's possible they will have certain holidays observed.
I was in CTC III-05, and we had 2 days for Thanksgiving and 1 day for Christmas off.

well i am not sure what tangent you are on pupdog... Voting? Rights? it would seem to me that as a cadet, you give up your rights to any decision making. They tell you when to eat, s***, sleep. The only choice you have is fight or flight. Just FYI.
Well not much hope for holidays. I expect the worst because then at least I may be pleasantly surprised.
don't count on it !!

I get what you're saying......I know you give up/ have to earn your "rights" at the academy, but I doubt that includes voting. Interesting thought with the elections coming up. I'm lucky- permanent absentee balloting for my precinct....we're too far in the boonies to have actual polling places apparently!

while there was no election while i was at the academy, i can assume it would be done via absentee ballot.

According to the cadet SOP, cadets are to arrange for absentee voting while attending the academy.

I was there in Nov 02. I voted absentee. Plenty of time to get your ballots sent to you and back.

We were able to go home Christmas Eve, had to be back on Christmas night and ready to go for classes on Dec. 26. At least they gave us that much.

I can't remember his name, but I think it's a guy who is currently a motor o/o South Sac. If I remember his name, I'll throw it out there. He used to work in Special Projects once upon a time. Not sure if that's him, but I think so. I do know the picture was taken at a law enforcement memorial at the Academy...
