Anyone here watched that movie?
In one segment of the movie, Denzel pulls over the side of the freeway and tells the new NARC recruit if he wants to stay with the specialized unit or you could join them. (Pointing to the background of a CHP officer changing a tire for a stranded motorist.)
What are the Chippies thought on that?

The basic rule of movies is that the uniformed cops are only there to arrest somebody on the order of the plain clothes big cheese or they are cannon fodder in shoot outs.

Refresh my memory, what happened to Denzel's character at the end of that movie?

I had to change the tire on my patrol car a couple days ago. However, I haven't changed anyone else's tire...that's what the radio is for.

I have only changed a tire while on duty one time. That was only because I felt sorry for a 75'ish year old lady that was driving to her granddaughters wedding and had no money. If a CHP officer changes a tire while on duty, it?s only because he/she is being a morally nice person. The department will never ask you to change someone?s tire.

I'm very multi-faceted. Some would probably call it 'schizophrenic', but I prefer to see the glass as half-full..... :D

About 10 - 12 years ago two of my friends and I were driving southbound on 280 in San Mateo County when all of a sudden one of the tires went flat. We pulled over to the shoulder. Searched the whole freaking car but could not find the tire wrench. Back then we did not have cell phones and had no idea how to use the call box. We were on the verge of walking to the nearest town for help when a CHP cruiser pulled up behind us. The officer came out, and asked us what was going on. He offered to lend us his wrench. To our surprise not only did he offer a wrench, but he performed a complete tire change. Three of us, teenagers, stood there and watched the officer changing the tire. When he finished, we were so thankful that one of the guys proposed to pay the officer for his services. The officer laughed and said something like ?you guys are funny, spend that money to fix the tire.? We verbally thanked the officer. He went back to his cruiser and drove off. Even though I don?t know the officer, I still consider him as one of the nicest peace officers I have ever met.

That's their job to change the tire. 24 hour AAA roadside service. j/k!
Nothing but love for my fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters with the CHP.
Alright Kevin, I'll admit it if it makes you happy.  I've changed tires. And not like one or two, I've changed a lot. I don't mind it and I've never gotten a uniform dirty. I do it because I'd rather just do it myself and be on the way as opposed to waiting around for a tow to do it. Besides, it makes people happy and provides the "service" in Safety, Service, AND Security! ;)
What was the last service you provided, Kev? And please remember this is a family forum forum so none of your 647 stories!

Next time I get a flat tire, I'll know who to call... thanks for the offer, DW! ;)

Kev,
We have talked about this movie scene before... it is quite obvious the law enforcement consultants for that movie are LAPD, and everyone knows there is no love loss between the CHP and LAPD. See heres the thing, all other agencies only work in one location, and think the CHP does only what they see them doing in their areas. In LA, (especially Central) the CHP is solely traffic control, so that is what LAPD thinks we do state wide. They dont realize most CHP officers work more than one area in their career, and do a variety enforcement duties. In the Central Valley, the CHP will do it all in some unincorporated areas. But most big city PDs dont know this, so they stereo-type. I think the scene in Training Day goes over most people heads... because to many, were all the same, a cop is anyone wearing a uniform whether its tan, blue or green! Ive taken more heat about LAPD's Rampart scandal from naive citizens, than anything relating to CHP. How about you guys...? Shoot any new training videos lately????

Takes more than one tire, rookie! You have to graduate from DW's special department approved training class on how to professionally change tires with a smile.

I hated that stupid movie.I watched the movie just last night and must say I enjoyed it. True most of it is very hard to believe and you must check common sense at the door, but it was action packed.

Actually I think a lot of CHP officers that have only worked in metropolitan areas have a jaded view of what goes on around the state. Just the fact that they are surrounded by cars and traffic collisions all day limits the things that they are allowed to do.
