I have a question for those who run and have some knowledge of sports injuries. I was preparing for my PAT coming up this weekend and I feel as if I have pulled my hamstring. I am not the fastest runner, but had my timefor the 500 under 2 minutes. I tried to get out tonight and do a slow run, made it about 3/4 of a mile running about a 2:14 lap and had to stop because I was scared I was going to make the situation worse when I felt the muscle tighten up.. I need to pass this PAT this weekend. Any suggestions on what I can do? Does wrapping the leg help any from supplying pressure? Thanks .

ICE, ICE, ICE, no heat!!!!!!........for a few days. Then say Thursday Slowly walk a couple of miles ...... get it warmed up , then stretch. Take your Vitamins and drink lots of water, you should be ok. Remember to make the 500, it only takes a mild run, not a full out sprint.

agree. If you do your 100 first then remember that 20 sec. is way more then you need so take it easy. when you do the 500 remember that this is the last running that you will do(if you already did the 100) and to give it your all. Just make sure you are good enough to finish the other things, though they aren't that hard. As long as you pass all of the tests then you will have tons of time after that to let your body recover

The other replies have it totally covered...to add my experience to it: the 500 can be a fairly slow jog- even for a slow runner like myself....you should be able to do it slow enough to still have some in the tank to sprint or at least significantly speed up for the last straightaway.

oh yeah, stretch before and after you work out, and if you're hurting, just really make sure you rest before your next run so you don't end up doing more damage.

Here's a little secret that many people do not know about.
All of the above tips are great and i suggest you do them.
Find a small message ball or a glass beer bottle of your choice and role your foot back and forth for about 15-20 minutes every day. This will get your hamstring back to normal twice as fast. This is a very effective workout that really works.
This is the type of excercise that pro-soccer players use to heal most leg injuries in a short amount of time. Injuries that involve ankles, calves, shin-splins, hamstrings, and knees are good for this type of excercise. It took me 15 days instead of 2 months to heal my pulled hamstring. I have also healed sprained ankles much quicker than normal using this method. Hope this helps! HAVE A NICE DAY!!!

Thanks for all of the suggestions. In fact, I'm sitting here with an ice pack on my leg right now:smile: I have heard about using the ball or bottle, I will give it a shot.

I wanted to say a big thank you to those who replied. I used the suggestions and was able to pass the PAT this morning. It wasn't pretty, but I got thru it. Once again, thank you

Congrats on passing. Now rest up and recover. Then go out and work hard. The PAT was nothing compared to what you'll be doing at the Academy !

Way to go! Did you end up pushing your body to the limit with the injuries?

I truly did push it to the limit. Right at the 50 yard point in the 500, I just told myself to suck it up and put the pain out of my mind. I just started concentrating on my breathing, the person in front of me, where I was at the minute mark. As soon as I crossed the finish line and knew I passed, the pain was there to greet me:smile: But what a great feeling knowing I didn't give in to the pain. Once again, thanks to everyone.
