You get your basic POST upon completion of the Academy. CHP (or any) written test is not a POST test.

i just took the CHP written test and passed. but they dont tell me a score. below are three questions from teh SFPD application that i think i would answer yes to the first one and no to the last two. but the last one says to be waived from the written test to write my social on the certificate. will i be getting a certificate in the mail soon for passing the written exam? i took it may 20th and haven't received my results yet. i called them today and they said i passed.
*3. I have taken the California POST written examination within the last two years with a t-score of at least 42
Yes No
*4. I have a California POST Basic Certificate (a certificate of completion issued by an Academy will not be accepted.)
Yes No
5. In order to be waived from the written examination, please write your social security number on a copy of the Post Basic Certificate and fax to (415) 551-8945 or mail it to: DHR Police Team,44 Gough Street, San Francisco, CA 94103.

If I read that correctly, you called and someone told you that you passed... When you receive the official letter, it will show your T-score.

What is the passing T-score for CHP, I know the essay portion is pass/fail, but what score are you shooting for on the multiple choice part of the test?

From the POST website http://www.post.ca.gov/training/certificates/prof-certificates.asp
Basic Certificate
The Basic Certificate is awarded, as defined in Commission Procedure F-1-5 (doc) to currently full-time peace officers of a POST-participating agency who have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite Basic Course requirement and the employing agency?s probationary period.
This is after the academy, after FTO, and after probation. Some CA agencies this is 12 or 18 months. A basic cert. is usually needed to lateral to another agency.
additional info:
your post t-score could be used to skip written tests with other agencies. I used it a couple times to skip tests and go directly to the interview but this will differ with each agency. The t-score can also be used to gain entry into an academy if you were to put yourself through, and not have a govt. agency pay for it .
